Southlake’s Safety Committee: Guardians of Workplace Well-Being and Unsung Heroes

As the city reflects on the accomplishments of the past fiscal year, it brings me great pride to shine a spotlight on the remarkable efforts of our Safety Committee. This dedicated group of individuals worked quietly and tirelessly throughout FY 2023, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of each of our employees.

Their mission was clear: eliminate workplace accidents and injuries, fostering an environment where every employee returns home in the same condition as they arrived at work. To achieve this, the team conducted a total of 35 injury reviews and ten vehicle accident reviews, demonstrating a proactive approach to learning from challenges that arose.

To address potential safety issues head-on, the committee performed six comprehensive building audits, resulting in 26 audit findings. The City of Southlake is pleased to report that over half of these findings have already been successfully resolved, showcasing their dedication to creating a safe and secure workplace.

In addition to their audit activities, the Safety Committee took the initiative to communicate critical safety information through the preparation of seven insightful safety articles. These articles not only served as valuable resources but also contributed to a culture of awareness and responsibility among our employees.

What makes their achievements even more commendable is that each committee member undertook this vital work in addition to their regular job responsibilities. The Safety Committee is composed of individuals from various departments, including Human Resources, Finance, Public Works, Community Services, Fire, Police, and Planning & Development Services. Together, they form a powerhouse of dedication and expertise.

It is with great pleasure that the city recognizes the Southlake Safety Committee as our Unsung Heroes. Their behind-the-scenes efforts have undoubtedly played a pivotal role in maintaining a safe and secure work environment for us all. Please join us in expressing our deepest gratitude to Chad Minter, Tim Slifka, Eugene Nunez, Andrew Merrick, Shane Cloud, Ryan McGrail, Kennedy Meehan, Weston Wood, Mike White, and Robert Sexton for their exceptional service.
