Beat the Heat at Stars and Stripes

With the July heat in full swing, here’s how you can stay cool and safe at this year’s Stars and Stripes celebration.

Stars and Stripes is just around the corner, and this year’s event is extra special, marking Southlake’s 70th anniversary and America’s 250th! With the event running from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on July 3, you’ll want to come fully prepared to stay cool and comfortable, as we will be feeling some of that summer heat. Here are a few tips to keep in mind.

Dress Accordingly and Bring Sunscreen

Make sure your festive attire is light-colored, loose-fitting and breathable. Consider bringing a hat or a cooling towel to help keep the heat off. Most importantly, don’t forget to apply sunscreen before you arrive and reapply consistently throughout the evening to keep your skin protected!

Stay Hydrated

The best way to beat the heat is by staying hydrated! Make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the event and grab an ice-cold drink from one of the food trucks if you want to mix things up.

Relax and Recharge in the Shade

Don’t let the sun beat down on you for too long! Take a seat in the shade, or stop by the Cooling Zone, sponsored by Cook Children’s, to get under some fans and enjoy some air circulation to cool off quickly.

Watch Out for Signs of Heat Exhaustion

If you or someone else experiences symptoms such as excessive sweating, cool skin, dizziness, weakness, confusion, or nausea, move to a shaded area to rest and sip water. If symptoms continue, seek assistance from the safety personnel at one of the Medic Tents.

Leave Pets at Home

Reminder, that this event is not pet-friendly, so please leave your furry friends at home. Hot pavement, busy crowds, and loud fireworks can be stressful and even dangerous for pets; they would be much more comfortable at home.

Keeping these tips in mind will help ensure a safe and enjoyable night for all guests as we celebrate Southlake’s 70th and America’s 250th. This is a Stars and Stripes you won’t want to miss. We look forward to celebrating with you soon!
