Sidewalks in Southlake are built in many ways. Whether they’re part of a City road or park project, privately constructed by developers or included in part of our pathways plan.

The City of Southlake capped off FY 2020 with the completion of the Continental Sidewalk, creating a loop by connecting Continental Boulevard to FM 1709, S. Kimball Avenue and S. Carroll Avenue, and providing pedestrian access to parks, businesses, neighborhoods and schools.

“The completion of the four-mile pathway loop in the heart of Southlake is just one example of the City’s commitment to a robust pathways network,” Assistant City Manager Alison Ortowski said. “From our parks and retail corridors, to our beautiful neighborhoods, connecting people to the places they want to go is a primary goal.”

The Continental Sidewalk was planned through the City’s 2030 Mobility Master Plan and funded through the City Pathways Program.

Through collaboration with the City Council, the City prioritizes segments based on criteria such as right-of-way availability, construction feasibility, proximity to schools and parks, as well as potential connections between neighborhoods. More sidewalks are planned in the coming years.

The City’s approach to new sidewalk construction is to assess the constructability of the location, identify any challenges such as right of way or topography issues and seek direction from the Council for specific projects. The City will also develop an asset management program to maintain existing sidewalks.
