The City of Southlake was one of 25 cities recently selected for the Texas Municipal Clerks Association’s Achievement of Excellence Award. The Achievement of Excellence Award recognizes the statutory requirements and demands for the effective management of resources for proper governance by the municipal clerk’s office. The award itself recognizes municipal clerk offices throughout the state for compliance with federal, state and local statutes that govern standards necessary to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the office. A municipal clerk’s office must have met and demonstrated 9 of 12 standards to be eligible to receive the award. The 12 standards considered by a committee include: The City Secretary’s office is responsible for managing the City’s public information requests and managing the public notices and agendas for the Council and the City’s Boards and Commissions, keeping the minutes of those meetings and many other crucial tasks for City operations to take place. Providing administrative support for the Mayor and City Council, the City Secretary’s office is led by Amy Shelley, who was appointed City Secretary in 2019. Shelley has served the City since 2017 when she was the Deputy City Secretary. “The Council and I wish to congratulate Ms. Shelley and all of our City Secretary’s office staff,” said Southlake Mayor John Huffman. “The City Secretary’s Office is the engine that keeps the Council and I going. We are so proud of them for receiving this award. However, I am not surprised, given their level of dedication to excellence for serving the Council and our community. This award, while exemplary, is just one example of many that shows what phenomenal employees we have throughout our City’s workforce.” Southlake’s City Secretary Office will be recognized along with other recipients of this distinguished award in the June issue of the TMCA, Inc., newsletter and be officially acknowledged in October at the TMCA Awards Banquet. Shelley said she is thrilled for the City Secretary’s office to be honored with this prestigious award. “Our office is very excited to be selected as a recipient of this honor,” Shelley said. “We take great pleasure in serving our residents of Southlake and assisting the Mayor and Council in conducting the City’s business while striving for excellence in all we do.” The City Secretary’s Office includes the city secretary, deputy city secretary, records manager and administrative secretary.
