Over the last few months contractors have been installing drainage infrastructure along N. White Chapel.
The new system is a part of the N. White Chapel widening project which involves turning the original two-lane road into four lanes between SH 114 and FM 1709, with a dual-lane roundabout at the intersection of N. White Chapel and Highland.
In efforts to accommodate the widening project, a new drainage system was recommended.
Like all drainage systems, the new infrastructure was designed to gather and eliminate water runoff.
The drainage system is also designed to store water to eliminate the amount of discharge, which could prevent a possible flood.
By continuing to invest in public assets, such as drainage infrastructure, the City can continue to provide our customers with the highest quality of life.
Drainage plays a significant role in maintaining a sustainable infrastructure system by preventing flood damage, backflow and erosion.
As of now, crews are working on drainage infrastructure on the north side between Chapel Downs and south of the Carroll High School, and masons are setting up capstones for the retaining wall on N. White Chapel.
The N. White Chapel Widening Project is estimated to cost $17 million and is scheduled to be completed in spring 2022, weather permitting.
