The Southlake Police Department welcomed two new recruits to the force earlier this year.

For Officer Mariel Estrada, this is her second City of Southlake employment.  When she was in college, she worked for the City’s Parks and Recreations Department.  She fell in love with how flexible and how much the City cared for her back then.

She was born in Mexico and moved to the area when she was 8 years old.  After high school, she attended the University of Texas at Arlington, where she graduated with a BA in criminal justice.  So far her favorite “new” Southlake memory was attending Mayor Hill’s farewell party, which she described as “bittersweet.”

“I’m so happy to be back in Southlake,” Officer Estrada said.  “I want to thank all of the residents for all of the support they give the police department.”

Officer Alex Adams grew up in Bedford and finished his BBA at Northwood University and his Masters of Educational Leadership at Texas Tech University.  He used that degree to become a high school assistant principal before applying to Southlake Police, continuing his career of service.

Officer Adams has attended church in Southlake for 15 years, so the City was a natural choice for him, as he stated he already enjoyed the people and the atmosphere.  He’s been surprised at how much open land, parks, trails, and wildlife are here.

“I’ve adapted well here,” Officer Adams said.  “The Southlake Police Department has been a very supportive place.  I feel welcomed and a part of the team.”

Both recruits adapted to a modified COG police academy, as they had multiple multi-week quarantines due to COVID-19.  We are so happy they chose Southlake as a place to protect and a place to begin their careers.
