Aircraft Noise Expected to Increase October 15-17

The City of Southlake was reminded by DFW Airport on Tuesday, October 15, that Runway 18L/36R remains closed for scheduled, significant runway rehabilitation and will remain closed until the end of October.

Noise Compatibility Planner for DFW Airport, Harvey Holden stated:

The wind is currently forecast to shift to the north at about 5PM Tuesday, 15 October. The north winds are expected to persist until around 5PM Thursday, 17 October. The winds are predicted to peak at about 13mph. If the forecast is valid, the FAA will be launching jet aircraft from Runway 31L over the cities of Southlake and Grapevine during all or part of that period.

With just two operable runways on the west side and Runway 31L’s inability to accept arrivals in north flow, it must be used for departures when the winds shift to the north. It should be noted that the FAA makes every effort to minimize the number of jet departures from Runway 31L by diverting some of the west side aircraft to other runways for departure, and by only using Runway 31L when the velocity of the north winds require its use.

Citizens with inquiries or complaints are encouraged to contact the DFW Airport’s Noise office by email at DFWNoise@DFWAirport.com or call the 24-hour telephone hotline at 972-973-3192.
