Board Approves 2014-2015 School Calendar

calendarartThe Carroll ISD School Board recently approved the school calendar for the 2014-2015 year, changing to nine-week grading periods for students in all grade levels.

The official calendar now calls for four grading periods over nine weeks for kindergarten through 12th grades. This change is expected to put less stress on students and staff than the current six grading periods that cover six weeks.

School officials say it will provide more time within a grading period for learning, assessment and reteaching. Other than this change, the calendar generally reflects the same features as the current year’s calendar.

“Grade reporting periods have been adjusted from six to four after consideration of recommendations from staff, parents, and students,” said Dr. JJ Villarreal, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services. “Moving to four grading periods will allow additional time for content instruction and the evaluation of student performance.”

On March 3, Trustees voted unanimously in favor of the calendar that features nine-week grading periods for all grade levels. Carroll ISD prints laminated copies of the official calendar to distribute to Dragon families as part of an ongoing sponsorship agreement with Roxann Taylor and Associates, Realtors.

New employees will take part in new hire orientation Aug. 12-14; all CISD staff will report for convocation on Monday, Aug. 18 with a full week of staff development/teacher work days. Students report for the first day Monday, Aug. 25. State law will not allow Texas public schools to start their year before the week of the fourth Monday of the month.

The calendar the Trustees approved included semester exams before winter break, just like the current year’s calendar.
