Curious about what’s in our water? The 2018 Drinking Water Quality Report will be in homes soon.

Summer is here! That means we will be spending more time outside soaking up the sun and enjoying the pool. It also means as it gets hotter we’ll be drinking more water. Ever wonder what’s in our drinking water?

In the coming days, the 2018 Drinking Water Quality Report will be reaching your mailbox. This report tells you pretty much everything you need to know about our drinking water in Southlake, from where our drinking water comes from to what contaminants could be in the water. The most important thing this report will tell you is that our water is safe.

The report provides data about water quality for the 2017 calendar year, explains how water tests are conducted and how our water measures up against state and federal guidelines.

Before you see the Water Quality Report, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. This is an official report that serves as a technical tool. That means it has a lot of useful charts breaking down exactly what is in our water.  The majority of the measures in the report are either parts per million (ppm) or parts per billion (ppb). When you see these numbers, they only represent trace amounts of contaminants measured in the water. To help visualize these measures, one ppm is roughly one teaspoon in 1,302 gallons and one ppb is one teaspoon in 1,302,000 gallons.

This report also has some great information about what you can do to help keep our water clean. Simple things, like picking up after your pets, checking for leaks and properly disposing of medications can go a long way.

We hope you’ll take the time to read through the report. We’re happy to answer any questions or help explain anything you might not understand. If you’re curious about what last year’s report said, check it out here.
