Baseball Holds First Place; Softball Nears Playoff Berth

Carroll left-hander Greg Maisto threw a one-hit, complete game shutout Tuesday in a 6-0 victory against Keller Central. Maisto also finished with 13 strikeouts.

Tuesday became rebound day in District 7-5A competition for Dragon baseball and Lady Dragon softball. The Dragons blanked Keller Central 6-0 as left-handed pitcher Greg Maisto threw a one-hitter in a complete-game performance at Dragon Field. Maisto also had 13 strikeouts. Drew Brown led the Dragons with two of their five hits and three RBI. The Dragons also took sole possession of first place in 7-5A with Saginaw’s victory against Fossil Ridge. Carroll (16-9, 9-3) returns to action at 7 p.m. Friday at Saginaw. The victory was a needed lift for the Dragons after suffering a loss last Friday at Coppell.

Lady Dragons Silence Saginaw
The Lady Dragons bounced back after two district losses with a 6-1 victory against Saginaw. Carroll improved to 8-5 in 7-5A. The Lady Dragons are in fourth place in 7-5A and have a one-game lead on fifth-place Coppell. The top four teams advance to the postseason. Carroll can clinch a playoff berth with a victory Friday in the regular season finale at 7 p.m. vs. Denton Guyer at Bob Jones Park in Southlake. The Lady Dragons had 12 hits in the win against Saginaw and were led by Alex Schneider’s three hits, including two triples. Lauren Heintzelman also led Carroll with three RBI. Schneider picked up the victory on the mound and had seven strikeouts.

Around The Horn: Carroll Teams Suffer 7-5A Setbacks

The first-place Carroll Dragons had their six-game district win streak snapped last Friday. The Dragons fell 13-3 at Coppell but remain tied for first in District 7-5A with Fossil Ridge. Before suffering the loss, Carroll (15-9-1) rolled off victories against Coppell, Keller Central, Saginaw, Denton Guyer, Fossil Ridge, Keller and Northwest to overcome a 1-2 district start. Carroll returns to action at 4 p.m. Tuesday when the Dragons host Keller Central. Third baseman Kenny Hill was one of the Dragons’ top hitters with home runs in his past two games.  On the mound, pitcher Greg Maisto had 13 strikeouts last week in a 2-0 victory against Northwest.

Lady Dragon Softball Team Vying For Playoff Spot
The Lady Dragons suffered their second consecutive loss last Friday 5-3 to Keller Central. Carroll fell to 12-7 overall and 7-5 in District 7-5A. The Lady Dragons are tied for fourth place in 7-5A with Coppell with two district games remaining. Carroll plays at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Saginaw and hosts Denton Guyer on Friday at Bob Jones Park to end the regular season. In the loss to Central, Lady Dragon Katelyn Vinson led the team at the plate with two hits, including a triple. The Lady Dragons rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh but fell short.
