Volunteers Make a Difference at Southlake's Great American Cleanup

On Saturday, April 11, 2015, the City’s Keep Southlake Beautiful program hosted Southlake’s 2015 Great American Cleanup. Volunteers came together to pull weeds, spread mulch and  spruce up Liberty Gardens – students from area schools banded together to spread approximately 80 bags of mulch!

Southlake’s Liberty Gardens was initiated through Keep America Beautiful and local affiliate Keep Southlake Beautiful (KSB) in an effort to create a positive destination within the community to commemorate the tragic events of September 11, 2001. The park road granting access to the garden has been closed due to construction in Bicentennial Park – construction is scheduled to wrap-up sometime this summer and the road will then be re-opened.

Cassie Tucker with the City of Southlake said, “The Great American Cleanup is one of the nation’s largest annual community improvement initiatives. Communities across America are participating, and the program engages over 2 million volunteers. The City of Southlake is a proud partner of Keep America Beautiful, and we hope the day of service not only improved Liberty Garden, but also gave an opportunity for students to make a difference in the community.”
