CISD Middle School Choirs Earn Sweepstakes

UIL Men's ChoirTwo months of preparation lead to top awards for the combined Carroll and Dawson Middle School Men’s Choir.

During competition held on Friday, Feb. 28 the students performed three songs for judges followed by sightreading a piece the students had never seen before.

With 1 being the best, each of the six judges gave the 9-member choir a “1” rating. This results in a sweepstakes, which only 5 out of the 25 choirs that were there that day received.UIL Boys 1

“I could not be more proud of these gentlemen,” said Whitney Anderson, Carroll and Dawson Choir Director. “They worked so hard to get to this point and to achieve their goal.”

Students who are members of the Carroll and Dawson Choir are: Matthew Chaplowe, Mitchell Groff, Bill Kahn, Will Meagher, Saunders Penn, Sebastian Poorman, Ryan Stevens, Cole Sullivan and Pierson Van den Dyssel.

Due to the recent winter weather, the UIL rescheduled the women’s portion of the competition for the end of March. The combined Carroll and Dawson Middle School Women’s Choir will continue to rehearse until the competition date is official.

 

 

 

Mixed Doubles Team Knocked Out In Semis

The Carroll Dragons’ mixed doubles team of Austin McCasin and Kelley Anderson reached the Class 5A state semifinals before falling Monday. The Dragon duo knocked off a team from Harlingen in the opening round 6-3, 6-2. In the semifinals, McCasin-Anderson lost to a team from Austin Westlake 7-6 (7-2) and 4-3. The championship match was scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday in Austin at the World of Tennis at Lakeway.

The Carroll boys’ doubles team of John Woolridge and Collin Alexander fell in the quarterfinal round 6-1, 6-2 to a team from Houston Memorial.
