Burglary Suspect Arrested

On Sunday September 2nd, the Southlake Police Department responded to a residential burglary in progress in the Southview residential neighborhood. NETCOM (Keller Dispatch) received a call at approximately 1:57p.m. from a juvenile stating he was home alone and that someone was breaking down the rear door of his residence. The victim also stated the intruder was armed with a firearm. The victim had the presence of mind to flee to an interior room where he remained hidden from the suspect.

Southlake Police Officers arrived on scene at 2:02p.m. while the dispatcher maintained communication with the juvenile. Responding officers located evidence at the scene which corroborated the reports received through dispatch that a crime was being committed. It was quite apparent at the scene that the victim’s location within the residence was not known to the possible intruder. For the safety of the victim, the North Tarrant Regional SWAT team responded. After a methodical approach, NTR SWAT was able to safely evacuate the victim from the residence. After the home was thoroughly searched, it was determined the suspect had fled prior to the officer’s arrival. Southlake Police Detectives responded to the scene and collected evidence. The victim provided a description of the suspect and, with the assistance of the Fort Worth Police Department, a composite sketch of the suspect was developed. This composite sketch assisted in the identification of the suspect.

The Police Department was later notified of two additional residential burglaries that occurred in the Southview neighborhood at approximately the same time as the above incident. Southlake Police Detectives investigated the crimes and developed viable leads.

On Tuesday September 11th, Southlake Police Detectives were notified by the San Angelo Police Department that, on September 3rd, they arrested a man for traffic offenses that occurred in San Angelo. San Angelo Detectives developed information that the traffic violator, Jerred Matthew Denton (DOB 10-26-80), was linked to at least one of the reported residential burglaries in Southlake. At the time of the arrest, Mr. Denton was found to be in possession of property taken from one of the Southlake burglaries and was also found to be in possession of a stolen firearm.

Wednesday morning (9/12), Southlake Police Detectives secured a warrant for the arrest of Jerred Matthew Denton on a charge of Burglary of a Habitation. Mr. Denton was in the custody of the San Angelo Police Department. Southlake Police Detectives traveled to San Angelo on Wednesday to interview Mr. Denton. Detective Karl Moore and Sergeant Jeff Marler obtained a confession from the suspect for all three burglaries. 32 year old Jerred Denton remains in custody in San Angelo and will be extradited to Tarrant County in the coming days.
