Estelle Spa & Wellness Brings State of the Art Infrared Spa Services to Southlake!

In an era defined by hustle and bustle, self-care has emerged as an essential component of a balanced, healthy lifestyle. As a result, individuals are seeking innovative, efficient, ways to rejuvenate and revitalize their bodies and minds. Estelle Spa & Wellness is offering just that with their Sculpt Pod sessions!

Like an infrared sauna, the Sculpt Pod allows infrared light to penetrate the body directly, warming from the inside out. The treatment differs from an infrared sauna in that you lay completely horizontally in the pod, with only your head exposed once it is closed. The pod also has the added benefit of a massage/vibration plate to elevate the experience, and completely relax your body and mind. Sessions are offered in 15- or 30-minute intervals, depending on the client and what they hope to achieve.

Owner Kim Estill was originally a client herself, using the Sculpt Pod at the recommendation of her daughter-in-law. After experiencing the results brought by the treatment, she knew she needed to bring it to Southlake! Benefits of the treatment include accelerating your body’s natural healing processes, reducing the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, weight loss, collagen production and so much more! Southlake Businesses, We Want to Hear from You!

Your opportunity to provide feedback as a Southlake business is here! The 2023 Southlake Business Climate Survey launched today, Monday, July 24th!

All Southlake-based business owners, managers, presidents and CEOs are encouraged to participate in this survey and share their opinions about their experiences, today’s economic environment, City services and other business-related topics.

This is the 5th round of the survey, which first launched in 2019. The survey results and business owner comments have become an important and integral part of the City’s annual work planning, helping the City in determining what business programs are most beneficial for local businesses. For example, as a result of the 2022 Business Climate Survey, the City is launching a job board to help businesses of every size address staffing struggles and provide resources for business owners, one of the primary challenges identified by the 2022 survey.

Business representatives can take the survey online from their smartphones or computers. Knowing that time is one of the most valuable resources for businesses, the survey is intended to take no more than five minutes to complete. Business representatives may then choose to answer additional questions to assist the City further or simply submit their answers.

If you’re a business located in Southlake and would like to participate in this survey, follow this link or snap the QR-code at the bottom of the page. The survey closes Monday, September 4th.

If you have questions about the survey, the Office of Economic Development and Tourism is available at 817-748-8198 or by email at EconDev@ci.southlake.tx.us.

Southlake Style Supports Local Businesses Through Advertising Match Program

As a locally owned business, Southlake Style magazine understands the importance of supporting other area businesses, especially during economic hardships created by the COVID-19 pandemic. Founded in 2006, the magazine covers the suburbs of Northeast Tarrant County through print, digital and event offerings related to community, food, events and style. Through the Southlake Style Cares initiative, the magazine has established a $100,000 Advertising Match Program to assist local business towards a swift economic recovery.

“After speaking with many local businesses during March and April, we saw first-hand how many were struggling due to COVID-19. We worked hand-in-hand with many to alter their marketing programs, defer their billing and provide installment billing options. With many of their businesses being closed or having a reduced capacity, their need to market and communicate was even greater. We wanted to find a way to help businesses even further and the advertising match program was born,” stated Nicole Tesoriero, co-founder and sales and marketing director of Southlake Style.

Every dollar spent on new print and digital display advertising through December 31, 2020 will be matched with an equal amount of advertising up to $100,000 in matched advertising. Since the program launched in late July 2020, more than 40 businesses have applied to the program and as of mid-September, Southlake Style matched $57,988.25 to 33 businesses across a variety of industries, including restaurants, health and wellness, travel and leisure, and services.

Matching funds may be gifted to another business or non-profit organization.

“Believe it or not, there are some industries and businesses that are thriving throughout COVID-19 and the idea of gifting match dollars was born from knowing that while some are doing well, they may not have the need to use the gifted dollars for themselves. We live in a community where businesses like to support one another and we knew that by offering a gift option, we’d have some companies stand up to help others. A perfect example is how Billy Stevens of billyGo called us after seeing the announcement of our program and said he’d like to gift $10,000 to the program and earmark the gift specially for our locally owned restaurant community.”

Southlake Style supports efforts to increase consumer confidence and is a member of the Economic Recovery Task Force, which is composed of local business leaders who work with the City of Southlake to help strengthen Southlake’s business environment in the wake of COVID-19 impacts. Southlake Style has also taken the Southlake Safe Pledge, a City program for local businesses that are practicing recommended health and safety guidelines. Businesses that take the Southlake Safe Pledge are included in the Southlake Safe business directory, have a revolving feature on the Southlake Safe website, and receive a kit that includes PPE essentials.

Economic Recovery Task Force Begins Work – Sets Strategic Goals For Future Success

A task force made up of local business leaders has begun its work with the city to help strengthen Southlake’s business environment in the wake of COVID-19 impacts. The team has set strategic goals and has begun to implement recovery ideas, such as relaxing outdoor sales regulations, an idea City Council has already approved.

“We’re off to a great start,” said Mayor Pro Tem Shawn McCaskill, who is leading the team with Deputy Mayor Pro Tem John Huffman and Councilmember Chad Patton. “The group is energetic, motivated, and innovative. They’ve set strong goals, and we’re going to see solid things come out of this effort.”

The task force has prioritized its work with the following goals:

Restore the economy. Achieve economic prosperity through tax and employment base growth, attracting investment of private capital into our economy that grows jobs, creates opportunity, increases tax revenue.

Improve local economic health. Monitor and establish programs to promote economic health metrics equal or exceed pre-COVID19 levels in the following areas: foreclosure rates, commercial occupancy (office, retail, industrial), commercial permits, new business openings, business survival rates, sales tax revenue, local sales data, employment, daytime population, hotel occupancy, and hotel average daily rates.

Support businesses. Southlake is recognized as a city where the business community is valued and nurtured through support services which are relevant, helpful, welcoming, and delivered in a timely manner with superior customer service.

Collaborate for Success. The business community, in partnership with the City, will nurture the growth and prosperity of Southlake businesses.

Promote the Southlake Brand. Southlake is recognized as a safe, vibrant community where businesses thrive.

Promote Tourism. Southlake is recognized, both nationally and regionally, as a great place to visit for shopping, dining, recreation and overnight stays.

“We are so fortunate in Southlake to have the caliber of business professionals that are participating in this effort,” said John Huffman. “Their guidance of our work will be invaluable.”

Joining McCaskill, Huffman, and Patton as members of the Economic Recovery Task Force are:

Mimi Tran, Vice President – Frost Bank
Mark Jones, President- First Financial Bank
Justin Lewis, Owner – Procore Fitness
Ryan Peabody, Owner – The Peabody Law Firm
Dave Garner, Owner – Wildwood Grill
Martin Schelling, Partner – Conifer Real Estate & Community Enhancement & Development Corp. President

Mark Guilbert, President & CEO – Southlake Chamber of Commerce
Jeff Isler, President – Jeff Isler Golf
James Keoughan, Group Leader – Keoughan Group at Allie Beth Allman & Associates
Nicole Tesorio, Owner and Sales & Marketing Director – Southlake Style

“This team is already making things happen, but there is quite a bit of work ahead,” said Councilmember Patton. “I expect we’ll be leaning on their expertise for months to come.”

In addition to economic recovery, the city is also looking to restore public confidence with efforts related to public and open spaces, civic assets and community centers, city spirit, and philanthropy.

Opening Your Business Back Up Soon? Check Out These Tips for Flushing Water from Your Plumbing.

The City of Southlake, in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control, wants to make sure you know how to properly flush out old water that has been sitting in the plumbing of your business for the last few weeks.

While businesses and other buildings have been closed, water that existed in those private plumbing systems may have deteriorated in quality. Typically, buildings can prevent stagnant water through regular, consistent water use, so this is not a concern most of the time. However, there are easy fixes that business owners can undertake to ensure clean, fresh water is flowing through those faucets.

  1. Remove faucet aerators if possible, and replace them after flushing is completed.
  2. Consider opening only one fixture (sink, shower head, hose bib) at a time. The more fixtures that are open, the slower water will flow into the building, which will result in some pressure loss.
  3. Start at the lowest floor of your building and work your way towards the top.
  4. Alternate turning on hot water and cold water. If there is a water heater onsite, this will ensure the water heater is flushed as well. You will need to flush cold water longer than hot water.
  5. Connect a water hose to an outdoor hose bib, or spigot. Flush this water for at least one hour. This will rid your plumbing of the stagnant water that has been buried underground in plumbing first.
  6. Flush all toilets in each restroom.
  7. For restroom sinks, you can turn on the faucet and flush for at least 2 minutes.
  8. For kitchen sinks, you should flush cold water for at least 8-10 minutes, and hot water for at least one minute.
  9. For water fountains, you should flush at least 1 minute.
  10. For more guidance on water systems in buildings and additional steps you may want to take, you can visit the CDC’s website at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/php/building-water-system.html .

Southlake Water Utilities maintains a year-round fire hydrant flushing program and monitors water quality in our water system daily. If you have any concerns or questions, please contact us at 817-748-8082.
