Carroll Brother and Sister Selected to be Honorary Pages in Austin

Bluebonnets, lassos, cowboy hats and boots are just a few of the Texas-style details you’ll see painted on the walls at Johnson Elementary School and next month, two students will have an opportunity to experience the state Capitol in Austin.

Houston and Hayden Claire Harding were two of just 10 residents living in District 98 selected to serve as a Page for a Day for Representative Giovanni Capriglione.

Houston is a third grader and Hayden Claire is in second grade and both are JES students. The siblings say they are excited about getting to go to Austin later this month.

The page for a day program allows participants to experience the legislative process up close as they assist members on the House floor. Each page is eligible to serve one half-day shift during a legislative session.  The Texas Legislature is currently in it’s 84th regular session.

Rep. Capriglione’s office says the page program offers a unique opportunity for students to witness the Texas Legislature in action and allows them to participate in the process.

“Working as a page is a valuable educational experience and it is always a pleasure to see student pages from my district visiting the Capitol,” said Rep, Capriglione.

Pages will be responsible for delivering messages throughout the Capitol, as well as performing other administrative tasks. Pages may keep their ID badges at the end of their service with the House.  Male pages must wear a coat and tie, while female pages are required to wear dresses, slacks, or other appropriate attire (no jeans, shorts, etc.). The application process for this session is over. A valid applicant must be a  resident of District 98 and submit a 300 word essay summarizing why they would like to be a page. Due to the 10 limited spaces available per member, applicants are chosen on a first come, first serve basis.
