Carroll Medical Academy Hosts Annual Career Day

The Carroll Medical Academy (CMA) Booster Club hosted its annual Career Day earlier this month. The event was held Feb.5 at Trophy Club Country Club. Over thirty medical professionals generously donated their valuable time and talent, representing wide-ranging specialties including pediatrics, internal medicine, orthopedics, psychiatry, dermatology and dermatological pathology, neurology, gastroenterology, asthma and allergy, podiatry, orthodontics, oral surgery, diabetes research, sports medicine, nursing, plastic surgery, Oncology, pharmacology, chiropractic, transplant immunology, veterinary medicine and dentistry.

After a catered breakfast, over 200 Carroll Medical Academy students participated in small group mentoring sessions on selected rotations with the following medical professionals: Dr. Trung D Tran, Spine Team Texas,  Dr. Ron Groves,  Dr. Madhukar Trivedi,  Dr. Timothy Jones,  Dr. Greg Colon,  Ms. Kelley Meehan,  Mr. Aubrey Fisk, Jeff Caraway, Dr. Kristen Fleager,  Dr. Mona Alvi, Dr. Ryan Hick,  Dr. Brian Susskind,  Dr. Steve Ruffner, Dr. Larry Elliott, Dr. Sara (Heldt) Greer,  Dr. Kevin James, Dr. Mark Greenberg, Dr. Amir Kahn, Dr. Richard Ruiz,  Dr. Sara Khan, Dr. Shahid Shafi, Dr. Tannetze Crocker, Dr. Carlos Becerra, Dr. Jennifer Myers,  Dr. Nathan Stickney, Dr. Ramamurthy, Dr. Priya Venugopal, Dr. Tara Wheeler, Dr. Vikas Jain, Mr. Ed Sims, Doctor’s Express,  and Debbie Edwards, CISD.

Various topics covered during rotations included descriptions of a typical day, steps taken and lessons learned on the path to specializing, case studies on patients and demonstrations of diagnostic tools utilized at the physicians’ offices.

While enjoying a catered lunch, students met with Dr. Becci Rollins to discuss course selection and college planning.  Sarah Pass a former CMA student from the very first CMA graduating class, shared her professional and college experiences with the group.  The afternoon wrapped up with guest speaker James Tran discussing his experiences as a Marine combat Medic and as a health care administrator.

CISD Administrators Dr. Faltys, Dr. Villareal, Dr. Moses CSHS Principal Mr. Duhon and CHS Principal Mr. Giamanco also stopped by during the day to lend their support to the CMA teachers spearheading the event, CMA Director Sherry Martin, Mrs. LaCava and Dr. Owen.
