Dragon Runners Come Out On Top at the Falcon Fast Invitational

With the cancellation of the Carroll Dragons’ Varsity races in Round Rock, TX, the entire team competed locally at the Falcon Fast Invitational. Each of the Varsity and JV Teams came away with big results placing first in all races.

Junior Jack Meyer placed sixth overall in the varsity meet with a time of 16:00.

The varsity boy’s team, coming in first place with 50 points, was led by Jack Meyers finishing in 6th place overall with a time of 16:00. Right behind Jack was Jackson Felkins in seventh at 16:02. Next to cross the line was Connor Rutledge in eighth at 16:06. Completing the scoring positions for the day was Juan Arcila in 12th at 16:13 and Vishnu Nair in 17th at 16:18.

The varsity girls’ team came away with a first place finish, with Sofia Santamaria leading the Lady Dragons taking tenth place overall at 18:27. Next in line was Cate Tracht in 14th with a time of 18:40, followed by Sarah McCabe in 19th at 19:00. Cristina Canal was next to cross the line at 19:06 in 23rd place and rounding out the scoring positions was Angie Riera in 26th at 19:10.

The JV Boys team took 1st place with a very impressive low score of 18 points. Not to be outdone, the JV Girls also placed first with an equally impressive low team score of 17 points. The boys had finishers in the top two places overall while the girls took the top three finishing positions.

Head Cross Country Coach, Justin Leonard commented, “All four of our teams ran a great race this past weekend. This was our last meet before our district meet so it was important that we came out and had a strong performance. Our runners have been putting in some hard weeks of training and now it’s time for us to focus on gearing up for our qualification races. We have put in the work now it’s time to have fun.”

Cross Country Teams State Bound After Region Sweep

LUBBOCK – The Carroll Girls and Boys Cross Country teams advanced to the State Championship race after both teams placed 1st at the Class 6A Region I Meet in Lubbock on Saturday.

For the 6th consecutive year, the boy’s team captured 1st place and a state meet bid, and for the 20th consecutive year, the lady dragons earned a spot in the championship state race. Despite the tough 3-mile course at Mae Simmons Park, known for its steep hills and tight turns, the Dragon runners came out strong and persevered.

Carroll coach Justin Leonard said, “Our boys and girls ran a great race and it took a total team effort to get it done. We understand that today’s meet was just another step towards our ultimate goal.  We have State in 2 weeks and we are excited to have the opportunity to compete against the state’s best.”

Reed Brown was the Regional champ, taking 1st place with an impressive time of 14:47.Nicolas Fernandes was next coming in 11th place, Charlie Gardner came in 15th, Evan Dunkel 33rd and Connor Rutledge finishes out the scoring positions in 35th place. Enzo Mortimer (73rd) and Nate Lannen (93rd) also competed. The Dragon boy’s team scored 82 points, El Paso Eastwood took 2nd (127 points), Northwest Nelson was 3rd (131 points) and Flower Mound came in 4th (154 points) and all will advance to the Championship State Meet.

The Lady Dragons ran a brilliant race, scoring just 41 points with all scoring runners placing in the top 20. Gillian Mortimer crossed the line in 3rd place, Cate Tracht was right behind in 4th, Ali White was next in 8th place, Arianna Lopez came in 12th and Sofia Santamaria placed 17th to complete the scoring runners. Angie Riera (24th) and Sarah McCabe (39th) also competed. Also moving on to the state meet was 2nd place Keller (52 points), 3rd place Lewisville Hebron (120 points) and 4th place Marcus (128 points),

Cross Country Teams State Bound

Carroll Dragon logo Trademarked 4LUBBOCK – The Carroll girls’ and boys’ cross country teams advanced to the state championship after qualifying at the Class 6A Region I Meet in Lubbock on Friday.  For the 4th consecutive year, the boys team captured 1st place and a state meet bid, and for the 18th consecutive year, the Lady Dragons earned a spot in the championship state race. The 3-mile course at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock is known for its steep hills, dust and tight turns but the Dragon runners overcame the challenges.

“We are so proud of our runners for qualifying again for the state meet,” said Carroll coach Justin Leonard said. “Our team depth prevailed again as our kids continue to step in and forge forward and keep this team thriving. Our girls team qualified for their 18th consecutive state meet and the boys won their fourth straight regional title.  We will now look to finish our goal next Saturday in Round Rock. We will have our hands full but our kids are excited for the challenge and will perform to the best of their ability.”

The Carroll cross country teams will compete Nov. 8 at Old Settlers Park in the Class 6A meet in Round Rock.

In a field of nearly 200 runners, Carroll boys had three in the top 20.  Reed Brown took 3rd place; Eli Canal came in 15th and Timou Toure 17th, Erik Karl (25th), Ansel Richards (29th), Michael Waugh (31st) and Luke Lanham (63rd). The Dragon boys team scored 77 points, El Paso Eastwood 87, Lewisville Marcus 118 and Keller Timber Creek 120 and will all advance to the Championship State Meet.

The Lady Dragon runners had two finish in the top 20, Sarah Odneal (16th) and Gillian Mortimer (20th).  Senior Rianna Randolph was close behind and came in 25th, Catherine Tracht took 36th, Ari Lopez 40th, Sarah McCabe 46th and Kayli Jones 48th.

Carroll Cross Country Teams Bring Home Bronze

THE WOODLANDS – The top teams in the state and as far as California met at the Nike South Invitational last Saturday. The runners faced high temperatures and humidity, which tested endurance through the winding, tight course. All four Dragon teams finished within the top-five places.

“Nike South is a great meet and we walked away from it with some bright spots and some that need to be addressed,” Carroll cross country coach Justin Leonard said. “We can achieve our goals but it’s going to take a total team effort over the next five weeks for that to happen. I’m really proud if the performance that Jacob Pickle, Eli Canal, Samantha Young and Moriah Dadson displayed.”In the Boys Varsity Elite race, Jacob Pickle’s second-place finish and Eli Canal’s ninth-place finish put them on the podium with the top-10t finishers.  Johnny Kemps grabbed 35th, Luke Lanham 38th and Ansel Richards took 57th to round out the scoring positions. Brent Aydon took 75th and Eric Vetere placed 103rd for the Elite Varsity team.

The Girls Varsity Elite team brought home the Bronze lead by Samantha Young with a ninth-place finish giving her a podium finish for the team.  Tig Archer took 11th, Moriah Dadson 18th, Katie Burnham 24th, and Ari Lopez 51st all held scoring positions.  Haley McFadden and Kayli Jones wrapped up the seven-member Elite team.

Carroll Cross Country Teams Bring Home Gold

The Carroll cross country teams had a great weekend of racing Saturday at the Marcus I Invitational.  Carroll placed first in the boys and girls divisions and several personal records were set.

“Many top ranked teams compete at the Marcus I Invitational to begin the season,” Carroll coach Justin Leonard said. “The course requires our runners to be focused on their race strategy and they need to continue to build strength and endurance.”

The Lady Dragons took first with 85 points, followed by Marcus with 92 points and Flower Mound grabbed 3rd with 113 points.  Tig Archer (18:27), Sam Young (18:32), Katie Burnham (18:37), Moriah Dadson (20:03) and Kayli Jones (20:08) led the Lady Dragons.

The Dragons finished first with 95 points led by Jacob Pickle (15:31), Eli Canal (15:41), Johnny Kemps (16:13), Luke Lanham (16:26) and Eric Karl (16:33). Hebron secured 2nd with 149 points and Keller captured 3rd place scoring 159 points.

 

 

Carroll Repeats As National Program Of The Year

Shelby Chapin led the Carroll girls to a national runner-up finish at the Nike Cross Nationals in Oregon.

The back-to-back theme continued for the Carroll cross country runners. Last weekend, they retained their title as the top cross country program in the country at the Nike Cross National meet in Portland, Oregon. Only 22 clubs qualifield at the regional meets across the nation. The girls finished as national runner up and the boys finished 8th overall. This season, Carroll repeated at Class 5A state champions in boys and girls.

“NXN was a great meet for our runners and a tremendous racing environment,” Carroll cross country coach Justin Leonard said.  “The course conditions were extremely difficult but our kids persevered and once again brought home the award for Top Program in the Nation.”

Shelby Chapin lead the girls’ team competition placing 11th and 33rd   overall, Courtney Kriegshauser grabbed 21st for team and 54th overall, Elena Arriaza 41st for team and 94th overall, followed by teammates Tig Archer, Maddie Keen, Katie Burnham and Taylor Ullmann.

Nate Sullivan’s overall finish of 20th gave him the title of All-American and led the team with a 9th place finish in the team competition.  Proudly finishing in the top 20 of the team competition, Connor Hendrickson finished 14th, 30th overall and Joe Sansone on his heels with a team place 15th and 31st overall, followed by Eli Canal, Trevor Gilley, Chase Wichman and
Alec Garner.
