The Carroll Dragons were among 172 High Schools from California to Virginia who competed in the most prestigious national tournament in Texas the weekend of Oct. 19 at St. Mark’s in Dallas. The tournament featured 91 of the best Lincoln-Douglas debaters from across the country.
Carroll Juniors, Djorn Patel and Daniella Cohen received recognition. Patel took 3rd place as Top Speaker in the tournament, as well as finishing in the top 16. Cohen, took 1st place in Congressional Debate and qualified for the Tournament of Champions at the University of Kentucky, as well as qualifying for the Texas state meet.
Other Congressional debate finalists from Carroll ISD were: Senior, Megan Schippmann; Junior, Kevin O’Brien, and Sophomore, Azhar Hussain. Junior, Will Cook advanced to the semi-final round of extemporaneous speaking and has qualified for the Tournament of Champions at Northwestern University in May.
