Last-Minute Thriller: Dragon Rally Stuns Coppell

JarredRepicePix (1)The Carroll Dragons added another thrilling chapter to its long-standing rivalry with Coppell.

The No. 3-state ranked Dragons (5-0) produced a 10-play, 77-yard game-winning drive to shock Coppell 28-24 before a frenzied crowd last Friday at Dragon Stadium.

Dragon running back Lil’ Jordan Humphrey scored the game-winning touchdown from one yard with 24 seconds remaining. After the kickoff, Dragon linebacker Jacob Copeland intercepted Coppell quarterback on the first play to seal the wild comeback victory. It marked Carroll’s opening game in the new District 7-6A.

Despite allowing 456 yards on defense and 355 yards rushing, the Dragons remained within striking distance. Carroll quarterback Ryan Agnew engineered the final drive with clutch decision-making and precision passing. He finished 25-of-33 for 273 yards and one TD pass. Humphrey rushed 20 times for 116 yards and two touchdowns.

Receiver Parker Fentriss had a big night with a game-high nine catches for 135 yards and one TD. He had a critical catch on the winning drive that help set up Humphrey’s TD.

Carroll and Coppell have played each other regardless of classification for more than four decades.
