Dragons use Trick Play to Dump Tulsa Union

dragons FBARLINGTON – The Carroll Dragons provided late-night trickery to boost a comeback victory against Tulsa Union.

The Dragons (2-0) stunned Union with a reverse halfback pass for a two-point conversion and overtime win 42-41 last Friday (turned Saturday) in the Southwest Showcase at AT&T Stadium. The teams didn’t kickoff until 9:30 p.m. as the final game of a tripleheader. The Dragons erupted with a victory at 12:45 a.m. Saturday.

On the two-point conversion, running back Lil’ Jordan Humphrey took a direct snap, ran left and then pitched to receiver Parker Fentriss. He rolled right and threw a perfect pass to quarterback Ryan Agnew, who was wide open in the right corner of the end zone.

The Dragons ran the play one time in practice the day before and ran it to perfection early Saturday morning. Union scored a touchdown on the opening possession of overtime. Prior to overtime, the Dragons overcame a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter.

Humphrey had a breakout game as the Dragons’ featured back this season with 162 yards on 23 carries and four touchdowns. He scored on carries of 2, 44, 2 and 25 yards in overtime. Agnew was 20-for-37 with 295 and had one touchdown passing and one rushing. Fentriss had seven catches for 159 yards.

Carroll travels to face Midland Lee (1-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Midland’s Grande Communications Stadium.
