The Carroll Dragons have repeated as the University Interscholastic League Class 5A Lone Star Cup champions.
During the 2012-2013 school year, the Dragons earned 122 points to earn the title. Carroll outdistanced second-place The Woodlands, which finished with 100 points. Flower Mound Marcus was third with 74 points.
Schools earn points based on finishes in state and area marching band, team tennis, cross country, volleyball, football, swimming and diving, wrestling, basketball, soccer, golf, track and field, academics, one act play, softball and baseball. Carroll earned multiple district titles and earned four athletic state championships in boys/girls swimming and diving and boys/girls cross country and earned a social studies championship. The Dragons scored 22 points more than last year’s overall total.
Winning schools receive the UIL Lone Star Cup trophy and $1,000 scholarship.
It marked Carroll’s fourth Lone Star Cup title and second in 5A. The Lone Star Cup award, given to schools in all classifications, began in the 1997-1998 school year and Carroll won consecutive titles in 4A (2000-2001 and 2001-2002).
