Lady Dragon Soccer Advances to Region Tourney

CarrollBoysSoccerLogoNORTH RICHLAND HILLS – The Carroll Lady Dragon soccer team is bound for the Class 6A Region I tournament.

Carroll defeated Byron Nelson 3-1 on Tuesday at the Birdville Fine Arts/Athletics Complex. The Lady Dragons advance to face Lubbock Monterey in a Region I Semifinal at 6:30 p.m. at Midland’s Grande Communications Stadium. The winner faces the winner of Coppell vs. Arlington Martin on Saturday.

Junior midfielder Mary Meehan had two goals and senior forward Natasha Santamaria had one goal in the victory against Byron Nelson.

Lady Dragons Upend Defending State Champs

CARROLLTON – The Carroll Lady Dragons had the tough task of face defending state champion LDSHebron in the second round of the playoffs. In addition, they faced them on their home field.

But the Lady Dragons responded to the challenge. Carroll upended Hebron 1-0 in a Class 6A area playoff Thursday night. The Lady Dragons advance to the Region I quarterfinals and will face Bryon Nelson at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Birdville Fine Arts/Athletics Complex in North Richland Hills.

Carroll scored the game’s lone goal in the second half. Grace Cory scored on a crossing pass from Danielle Dennis.

Meanwhile, Lady Dragon goalie Jamie Phelps recorded her 19th shutout of the season.

The Lady Dragons’ Friday game has been moved to 2 p.m. vs. Westlake and on Saturday to 12 p.m. at Dragon Stadium.

St. Stephens vs. El Camino, 4 p.m. Dragon Stadium

The National Elite Prep Showcase Presented by JATO Athletics comes to Southlake and Fort Worth this week.

Nolan Catholic High School and Carroll host the nation’s most competitive tournament, which once again includes only the best teams, not only in the area, but in the nation.

Each year we increase the field of teams and this year’s is the biggest event yet— with 37 total teams from Texas, California, Mississippi, and Florida.

Four teams in this year’s showcase have been ranked #1 in the nation in the last several years, while 18 of this years 37 teams have gained national respect already this year in the national rankings. NEPS 2015 has five of the Top 10 teams in the country getting their season started in Fort Worth.

The event is sanctioned by the NFHS and brings together the top high school girls teams from all around the country.  Teams represented this year are from Texas, California and Florida.

Lady Dragons Fall in Regional Final

CarrollSoccerLogoJUSTIN – The Carroll Lady Dragon soccer season ended one victory shy of a return trip to the Class 5A state tournament.

The Lady Dragons fell 1-0 to Hebron in the 5A Region I final on Saturday at Northwest ISD Stadium. Hebron scored early in the second half and the Lady Dragons were unable to counter. Carroll, a state finalist last season, ends the season 23-2-1, which marks the team’s fewest losses in a season.

Carroll only allowed one goal in the playoffs and goalkeeper Jamie Phelps finished the season with 15 shutouts. Grace Cory led the team with 26 goals and 16 assists. Danielle Dennis was second with 14 goals and Allie Luna had 11. Luna was second on the team with 14 assists.

 

Lady Dragons Wins, Advance to Region Semis

JUSTIN – The Carroll Lady Dragons faced a familiar foe in the Class 5A Region I quarterfinals Tuesday.

Carroll met district-mate Timber Creek for the third time this season and it produced the closest battle of all. The Lady Dragons scored in the final 11 minutes to produce 1-0 victory to advance at Northwest ISD Stadium. Allie Luna provided the game-winning score with 10:44 left in the game on the assist from Natasha Santamaria. The Lady Dragons improved to 22-1-1.

Carroll will face Coppell at noon Friday in the Class 5A Region I tournament at Northwest ISD Stadium. The UIL moved the region tournament from Midland to Northwest due to all four teams remaining were from the DFW area. The other region semifinal includes Hebron vs. Keller. The Region I title game will be held at noon Saturday.

Soccer Update: Lady Dragons Advance to Area Round

CarrollBoysSoccerLogoThe Carroll Lady Dragons exploded with a 5-0 victory against Lamar in the opening round of the Class 5A playoffs last Friday at Birdville ISD Fine Arts/Athletics Complex. Lady Dragon leading scorer Grace Cory scored two goals and Allie Luna also scored two goals as the team improved to 20-1-1. The Lady Dragons led 3-0 at the half. Natasha Santamaria added one goal. Carroll advances to face Odessa at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Abilene’s Shotwell Stadium in an area playoff match. Follow the Lady Dragons on Twitter here.

Dragons’ Season Ends vs. Arlington
The Carroll Dragons’ season came to an end last Friday in a 3-2 loss to Arlington in the Class 5a bi-district round at Chisholm Trail High School Stadium. The game was tied at 1-1 at halftime and the Colts scored the game-winning goal with nine minutes left in the game.

Lady Dragon Goalie Signs Scholarship

Carroll Lady Dragon senior goalkeeper Ellie Kemins signed a scholarship last Friday with Texas A&M Texarkana. The ceremony was held in the field house with teammates, coaches, family and friends. Texas A&M Texarkana coach Steve Golas was also in attendance.

 

Lady Dragons Fall To Plano West In 5A Final

Carroll senior Meghan Murphy and the Lady Dragons set a school record with 30 victories this season.

GEORGETOWN – The Carroll Lady Dragons’ hopes for a Class 5A state championship fell short Saturday at Birkelbach Field.

Plano West completed an undefeated season with a 4-1 victory in the title game and earned back-to-back state championships. The game was scoreless at the half. Carroll fell behind 4-0 and broke up the shutout on a goal by senior forward MaKayla Braun.

The Lady Dragons finished the record-setting season 30-3, which set a school record for victories. It was Carroll’s fourth trip to the state tournament and it was their first return trip since winning the title in 2008.

The Lady Dragons reached the final with a 1-0 win the against San Antonio Johnson. Freshman Grace Cory scored the game-winner early in the second half. Carroll loses 14 seniors next year, including six who have signed with colleges. One of those is the Lady Dragons all-time leading scorer Sophie Groff, bound for South Carolina next fall.

 

STATE PREVIEW: Lady Dragons Face SA Johnson In State Semis

The Lady Dragons are headed back to the state tournament for the first time since winning the 5A title in 2008.

For the first time since 2008, the Carroll Lady Dragons are headed back to Georgetown for the Class 5A state tournament.

The Lady Dragons (29-2), which won the title 2008, face San Antonio Johnson (21-4-3) in a 5A state semifinal at 1 p.m. Friday. The team will depart from Southlake on Thursday morning. The other semifinal features Plano West (26-0-2) vs. Katy Taylor (23-3-2) at 11 a.m.

The tournament will be held at Georgetown ISD’s Birkelbach Field.  Fox Sports Southwest will offer a live webcast of the state touranments games.  Click here to watch on Friday. This marks Carroll’s fourth trip to the state tournament.

Carroll 4, Marcus 3 – Class 5A Region I Final
The Carroll Lady Dragon soccer team unleashed a dazzling offense in the Class 5A Region I Final at Birdville ISD Fine Arts/Athletics Complex.

After falling behind by a goal early, the Lady Dragons rocketed to a 4-1 victory and berth in the 5A state tournament for the first time since 2008. The Lady Dragons’ four answered goals uncapped an attack led by senior standout Sophie Groff.

The South Carolina signee scored two goals while Meghan Murphy and Danielle Dennis added one apiece. The match was tied 1-1 at the half before Murphy’s goal gave the Lady Dragons their first lead with 21 minutes remaining.

The Lady Dragons are making their fourth state tournament appearance and seeking their second state championship after winning the title in 2008.
