Southlake Public Library Hosts Holiday-Themed Workshops

Mark your calendars and get WRAPPED up with all the merry activities at the Southlake Public Library. Whether it’s Storytime with Mrs. Claus or a puppet show with Frosty and Friends, there is something for the whole family to enjoy.

Spend Your School Breaks with Camp Mania!

Make sure your child has a fun and safe break from school this spring with Camp Mania. Join us for a single day fun field trip at Day Break Camp Mania or a whole week of fun, friends and excitement at Spring Break Camp Mania.

On President’s Day, Monday February 20, join Day Break Camp Mania to a trip to the Ft Worth Zoo from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, cost is $35 per camper.

Spring Break wouldn’t be fun without Spring Break Camp Mania, March 13-17. Before and aftercare is provided during Spring Break Camp Mania at no additional charge from 7:30 AM-9:00 AM and 4:00 PM-6:30 PM, cost is $150 per camper.

Join Day Break Camp Mania before summer break, Friday May 26, as we travel to the UT Arlington Planetarium and River Legacy Park in Arlington from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, cost is $35 per camper.

Southlake Library Hosts Family Events All Month

School’s out! Everybody shout – what do we do? The Library has the answer to that question, with activities almost every day through the month of June.

Show your sweet decorating skills with Scribble Cupcakes. Find out what a Circus Chickendog is. Compete against your friends with Minute-to-Win-It games for tweens. The Library’s programs are always free and open to the public and make a great addition to your summer schedule.

Also, don’t forget to sign up for Southlake Summer Reading – it’s the best way to turn reading into fun and prizes.

City of Southlake offers numerous programs for Preschoolers

The City of Southlake Parks and Recreation Department is offering a lot of options for parents of preschool age children. These programs and activities are for children as young as 18 months and up to 5 years old. You can learn more about these programs in the Spring 2016 issue of the Southlake Scene.

Opportunities range from ongoing programs such as Lil’ Chefs and Jo-Ann’s Little Dancers to single events like Superhero Snacktime and Princess Tea Party. These programs are more than just fun & games, they are also beneficial in general child development. Through these programs, preschoolers are learning new skills and being exposed to new activities while also learning to socialize with other children. It’s an all-around win for the whole family.

Holiday Fun never stops at the Library this November and December

Even though the weather is cooling down, the holiday season has things heating up with events at the Library. With Holiday-themed events, November and December will feature a slew of fun activities and programs for children and teens of all ages brought to you by the Library at Southlake Town Square.

  • Saturday, December 5 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM: Star Wars Night (Teens)

  • Saturday, December 19 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Holiday Open House (All Ages)
  • Monday, December 21 at 11:00 AM – Story Time with Mrs. Claus (All Ages)
  • Thursday, December 31 from 10:45 AM – 12:00 PM – Noon Year’s Eve Celebration (Under 7)

Holiday fun starts in October at the Library

A lot of people will tell you the holiday season starts with Thanksgiving but at the Southlake Library, the holiday season kicks off in October!  Starting October 10, the Library will feature a variety of fun, holiday-themed activities and events for all ages.

  • Saturday, October 10 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM: Costuming Workshop (Teens)
  • Monday, October 12 at 11:00 AM – Scary Stories to Chill Your Bones (Ages 4 and up)
  • Monday – Friday, October 19 – 23 – Painted Pumpkin Faire (All Ages)
  • Saturday, October 31 from 12:00 PM – 12:00 AM: Halloween Photo Scavenger Hunt (Teens)
  • Tuesday, November 3 from 4:30 – 5:30 PM – Diary of a Wimpy Kid Release Party

Mini-Dribblers Fall Registration is Underway!

Mini DribblersIt’s that time of year, the Fall Mini-Dribblers program begins October 13th and runs until November 5th. All four and five year olds are invited to come learn about the game of basketball in a fun environment!

Boys and girls will learn the fundamentals of basketball including: shooting, dribbling, passing and rebounding. Mini-Dribblers emphasizes the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship and most of all, having FUN.  Let your superstar shine in this non-competitive environment while learning the game of basketball.

Practice will begin on Monday, October 13th. Teams will meet every Monday and Wednesday through November 5th at a time of your choice; 4:30 – 5:15 p.m. or 5:30 – 6:15 p.m.  Parents, be sure to join us on our final day of practice as our Mini-Dribblers showcase their skills in “The Big Game.”

You can register online or in person at the Community Services office located at 1400 Main Street, Suite 210. The fee is $45.00 which includes a jersey, trophy and a youth sized basketball.

Mini Kickers for Ages 4-5 Begins April 21, 2014

Mini KickersCity of Southlake Recreation is ready to introduce your child, ages 4-5, to soccer in a fun, friendly and safe environment at Mini Kickers.

Practice will start Monday, April 21 and participants will meet every Monday and Wednesday at Durham Intermediate School until May 14. Through interactive drills and exercises, boys and girls will learn the fundamentals of soccer including kicking, dribbling, passing and shooting. Teamwork, sportsmanship and overall FUN will be emphasized over direct competition. Parents, be sure to join us for the last day of the season as players will get the chance to show off their new skills in the “Big Game.”

Here is what one parent had to say about Southlake Parks and Recreation Mini-Sports programs, “Wonderful program! My son learned so much and had fun! Staff was so friendly and great with the kids. Thank you for a great program!”

The City of Southlake Hosts Spring Break Camp Mania March 10-14, 2014

Sign up today for Spring Break Camp Mania!Come and join the City of Southlake Parks and Recreation staff for a week packed full of fun, sun and excitement! Spring Break Camp Mania has become a Southlake staple for more than six years and is the leader of Spring Break entertainment for children ages 5-11!

Spring Break Camp Mania will be held March 10th-14th at Durham Intermediate School. Campers are invited to have fun and meet new friends in a safe environment during their time off school. Spring Break Camp Mania will offer games, crafts, movies, field trips and much more.

Your child will have a lot to talk about from their Camp Mania experience. A parent of a participant from Summer Camp Mania said, “I find Camp Mania to be a well-organized, fun and social environment for my daughter. She comes home every night saying how much fun she had!”
