Councilmembers Took Oath at City Council Meeting

Councilmembers Chad Patton, newly elected official Ronell Smith and John Huffman will take their seats to serve on the Southlake City Council Tuesday, May 21 at 5:30 p.m. in Town Hall. Huffman and Patton were elected to serve second terms, and Ronell Smith will take the place of Mayor Pro Tem Randy Williamson who has served two consecutive terms and has met the term limit.

The oaths of office will take place in Council Chambers during the City Council meeting Work Session. A new Mayor Pro Tem and Deputy Mayor Pro Tem will also be selected by the City Council during the meeting later that evening. After the oaths take place, a reception will be held in the lobby.

Councilmember Huffman serves in Place 5 and was first elected to this position in 2015. He currently serves on the Southlake Parks and Development Corporation Board and Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone Board of Directors. His past service includes time on the Zoning Board of Adjustment, where he held a position as a Vice Chairman and was later elected as Chairman. He is also a member of the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists and Co-Founder and Past President of Gig ‘Em Club of NE Tarrant County.

Councilmember Patton was also re-elected and will continue to serve in Place 3. Patton was first elected in 2016. He is an active member of the 2035 Corridor Planning Committee and served on Zoning Board of Adjustment Commission and the Parks and Recreation Board where he is currently Vice Chairman.  Patton is also an active volunteer in the Southlake community and serves as a Volunteer Coach for Dragon Youth Baseball, Southlake Recreational Basketball and Upward Armour Under the Lights Football Basketball. He also volunteers at Gateway Church.

Newly elected official Ronell Smith is no stranger to the City of Southlake.  Smith served four years on the Zoning Board and Adjustment, acting as Vice Chair for most of his tenure. He has completed the DPS Citizen’s Academy program, served as DPS Citizen on Patrol (COP) and volunteered as a Business Buddy with the Economic Development and Tourism Department. He also has ties to Carroll ISD where he was recently appointed to the CISD District Diversity Committee and serves as a liaison to several additional CISD advisory committees and boards.

Candidate Filing For May 2013 Election Begins January 30th

UPDATE: 2/15/2013:  As of February 15, three candidates have filed to run for City Council:  Place 3, Brandon Bledsoe; Place 4, Randy Williamson; Place 5 Laura Hill.  For more information about the requirements to run for office and the deadlines for filing, please visit the City’s election candidate information page.

On May 11, 2013, registered voters will cast their ballot to elect persons to serve on City Council in Places 3, 4 and 5.  Starting Thursday, January 30th, the Southlake City Secretary’s Office will accept applications from members of the public who are interested in running for elected office.

The filing period begins January 30 and continues through March 1, 2013.   The office will receive applications during the business week between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.  All received candidate applications will be posted to the City’s website (www.CityofSouthlake.com) at 5:00 p.m.
