Dragon Baseball Clinches District 5-6A Championship

HURST – Dragon baseball continued its hot streak in District 5-6A on Tuesday.

The Dragons clinched at least a share of the 5-6A title with a 4-2 victory against L.D. Bell. The Dragons have a three-game lead on second-place Marcus with three games remaining.

Carroll, ranked No. 1 in Class 6A by the Dallas Morning News, jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning. That provided all the cushion needed for Dragon pitchers Adam Stephenson, Erik Friedel and Nicco Cole.

Stephenson went four innings and allowed six hits. He added eight strikeouts and one walk. The Dragons blasted nine hits led by two hits apiece from Stephenson, Wyatt Stapp and Cole Johnson. Johnson had a double and two RBI.

Carroll (21-7-1, 10-1 in 5-6A) has won eight straight in district and looks for a sweep against L.D. Bell on Friday. The Dragons host the Blue Raiders at 7 p.m. on Old Union Elementary Night.

Dragon Baseball Continues First-Place Reign in District 5-6A

The Carroll Dragon baseball team continues its hold on first-place in a competitive District 5-6A.

The Dragons improved to 9-1 in district with a come-from-behind 7-5 victory last Friday at home against Byron Nelson.

Carroll, the area’s No. 1-ranked Class 6A team by the Dallas Morning News, picked up its 20th win of the season in the back-and-forth game that included the Dragons overcoming a 2-0 deficit and breaking a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Dragon hitters Adam Stephenson, Wyatt Stapp and Kole Ramage each had two hits apiece. Cutter Sippel earned the victory and Nicco Cole delivered the save with two innings of relief.

Carroll has four district games remaining and faces L.D. Bell this week — Tuesday at Bell at 7 p.m. and Friday at CSHS at 7 p.m.

The Dragons have a firm hold on first place in district, three games ahead of second-place Marcus and Lewisville.

 

Dragon Baseball Sweeps Lewisville, Meets Marcus in Showdown

The Carroll Dragon baseball team produced two exciting victories last week in District 5-6A action.

The Dragons swept Lewisville with wins Tuesday on the road and Friday at home.

In Tuesday’s victory, Dragon pitcher Kole Ramage tossed a one-hitter and carried a perfect game into the sixth inning of Carroll’s 4-0 victory.

Last Friday, Dragon senior shortstop Jake Murphy delivered a walk-off home run to lead off the seventh inning of a 2-1 victory. The Dragons rallied with one run in the sixth to tied the game at 1-1.

This week the Dragons face Marcus in a battle for first place in district. Tuesday’s game is set for 7 p.m. at Marcus and the Dragons host Marcus on Friday at 7 p.m.

Carroll (16-7-1, 5-1) is ranked No.1  in the area by the Dallas Morning News. Marcus (16-6, 5-1) is ranked No. 2.

 

 

Dragons Get Back On Track, Blast Midland Lee

The Carroll Dragons overcame their season-opening loss with a 63-14 home victory against Midland Lee. The Dragons improved to 1-1 overall and travel to face Temple on Friday at Baylor’s Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.

Carroll quarterback Ryan Agnew has been nominated for this week’s SportsDayHS Hero, given each week to the top performer. Agnew was 18-for-24 passing with 242 yards and three TDs and added 15 carries for 144 yards and four TDs. The winner will be announced on Friday. To vote for Agnew on the SportsDayHS mobile app.

Agnew has also been nominated for the TXA21 and Children’s Medical Center Player of the Week. Voting ends Wednesday noon. Click here to vote.
