Dragon Tennis Standout Finishes as Class 6A State Semifinalist

COLLEGE STATION – Dragon tennis standout Arman Dave fell in the UIL Class 6A state semifinals last weekend.

Dave, the defending state champion, lost to Roger Chou of Austin Westlake – 6-2, 6-3 – in the semfinals. Chou was the eventual 6A state champion. The state tournament was held at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center at the Texas A&M University.

Dave won his opening quarterfinal match vs. Austin Anderson’s Andres Almazan – 6-0, 6-1. Last year, Dave became the first Dragon to win a singles title since 1998.

Dragon Tennis Player Qualifies for UIL State Tournament

Arman_2017Carroll tennis player Arman Dave will try to defend his Class 6A championship next month.

Dave qualified for the state tournament after he earned a 6A Region I title victory against John Edwards of McKinney. Dave won in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.

The UIL state tournament will be held May 18-19 at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center & Omar Smith Intramural Tennis Center in College Station.

Dave, a junior, won the 6A state championship in singles last year and became the first Dragon to win the singles title since Justin Hunter in 1998. Last year, Dave joined Hunter and Doug Fike (1996) as the only boys singles state champs.
