Demolition of Adventure Alley Begins June 4

The demolition of Adventure Alley  is set to begin on Monday, June 4. After nearly 17 years of heavy use, Adventure Alley was officially closed on May 21 in order to make way for the second phase of improvements at Southlake’s signature, Bicentennial Park.  

Since its opening in 1995, the playground has been the site of thousands of birthday parties, school field trips, dragon sitings, and family outings over the years. The playground was designed by children, organized and planned by numerous community volunteers, and funded through the generosity of many area businesses and individuals.

The playground contained many ceramic tile handprints and wooden slats with family names on them from when the park was first built.  The tiles will be incorporated into the new playground design, while the wooden slats will be given to the families who want them.

The first phase of the Bicentennial Park Improvements was completed in September 2011, and has received rave reviews, including a recent Merit Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects for outstanding public park design.

Director of Community Services, Chris Tribble noted that “Design is currently underway for Phase 2 that will include a state-of-the-art 1.3 acre playground that will be a unique centerpiece for the park, and encourage children of all abilities to explore, learn and imagine for generations to come.”
