The Carroll Dragon Wrestling team finished a historical season with a school-record six wrestlers competing in the UIL state tournament.
Dragon senior Jack Duval was the top finisher taking second place in the 160-pound weight class. Duval fell in overtime in the final 3-1.
Junior Adam Lindberg finished sixth in the 170-pound class. Seniors Nolin Wheeler and Lucas Tribble both finished in the top eight. Senior Clay Vincent and sophomore Jacob Doddridge were other Dragons to qualify for state.
The Dragons, which went 11-1, also had a second-place finish at the Region I tournament, which was the team’s best finish in school history.
Coach Joe Hathaway was also a State Head Coach of the Year finalist.
For the second consecutive year, the Carroll Dragon wrestling team earned the District Dual Team championship. The Dragons went undefeated in district dual competition, which is the equivalent to the regular season title.
The Dragons competed in the District 4 Dual Team Championship this past weekend at Northwest High School. The District Duals were held in conjuction with the NW Jam Dual team tournament which featured teams from DFW, Houston, Arkansas and Louisiana. The Dragons went 7-0 dominating the competition against the District 4 opponents. Over the past four seasons, the Dragons are 29-2 in district dual meet competition.
Dragon wrestler Cody Lindberg was named Most Outstanding Upperweight Wrestler for the District Duals.
Carroll also won the final two matches against Houston Westside and Grapevine to win the NW Jam Duals title. The Dragons will next compete in the District 4 Tournament on Feb. 1 seeking a three-peat as champs.
The Carroll Dragon wrestling team defended its District 10-5A tournament championship with another outstanding performance. The Dragons also won the regular season district championship, finishing 8-0. Nine Dragon wrestlers advance to the Region 2 Tournament next Friday, Feb. 10 at Arlington Martin. Five Dragons are qualifiers and four are alternates.
Dragon coach Joe Hathaway was also named District 10-5A coach of the year.
