Carroll ISD Announces Delayed Start

Update at 7:30 p.m.

Carroll ISD announces a two-hour delayed start for Friday, February 7, 2014
CISD school officials, in consultation with transportation staff, weather experts and area school superintendents, have decided to delay the opening of schools by two hours on Friday, February 7 due to cold temperatures, icy sidewalks and parking lot conditions. This will give our staff and students more time to safely commute to our buildings after morning rush hour traffic clears. It will also give CISD time to continue to monitor weather conditions and to prepare our campuses for the arrival of staff/students.

Be advised that today’s weather came in quickly and much heavier than expected. There is about a 30% chance for more snow or drizzle tomorrow morning. Should the situation unexpectedly worsen overnight or tomorrow morning, we will make official announcements using our website, Facebook and Twitter accounts (@Carrollisd). We will also utilize your child’s emergency contact information via our Connect-ED emailing and calling system.

We sincerely appreciate all the kind words and support you shared with us during a difficult weather event today. You would be proud of our Dragon staff for taking care of kids, helping drivers maneuver tricky slopes and putting safety first.  Tomorrow you can sleep a little longer, but be careful driving and bundle those Dragons up for the bus stops. We love your kids!

Update at 12:00 p.m.

Carroll ISD announced an early dismissal today. Teen student drivers will be dismissed first; dismissal at all intermediate, middle and high schools will be at 1 p.m. Preschool will dismiss at 1:45 p.m. Dismissal at elementary schools will be at 2 p.m. to allow buses to return after secondary routes. Parents can certainly pick up their children at any time you feel it is safe to do so.

All afternoon and evening activities have been canceled for Carroll ISD; the regional dive meet in nearby Keller just started and will continue as planned.

Carroll ISD monitored weather throughout the evening and morning. At 6:30 a.m. we had no snow accumulations and a projection of only a dusting of snow. As you know, the snow not only continued to fall, but accumulated quickly causing roads to deteriorate faster than expected. Safety is always and remains our top priority, but conditions and information do change regularly. Our goal now is to get everyone home safely. Please drive carefully; you can follow us on Twitter @carrollisd. We will announce when the last CISD buses return safely – please realize the buses will travel safely, but slowly, so expect delays.

Carroll ISD will continue to monitor the weather, using our website, Facebook and Twitter accounts (#SAFEdragon) to make official announcements about Friday. Connect-ED will also be utilized for official announcements as needed.

Thank you as always for your patience and support during a rapidly changing situation.

Original Post at 10:00 a.m.

Carroll Independent School District officials spent the morning keeping a watchful eye on the weather forecast and current conditions outdoors. A light snowfall began around 7 a.m. and has continued to increase throughout the morning. Carroll ISD officials continue to move throughout the district, checking the safety of sidewalks, parking lots and streets. District staff have and will continue to apply ice melt as needed in areas on campus.

CISD confers with neighboring districts, transportation staff and local officials with regards to the weather situation.

As the snow continues to fall, crews with the City of Southlake have been out sanding the roads and roundabouts.

Due to the roads worsening this morning, high school bus shuttles were cancelled and students drivers were not allowed to leave campus due to the conditions.

All after school athletic events and practices have been cancelled.
