Empowering Seniors, a health and lifestyle expo for people over the age of 50, will take place for the sixth year in a row on Friday, October 3. Presented by Tarrant County Commissioner Gary Fickes, the event will be hosted at First Baptist Church Euless West Campus from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. This is an ideal opportunity for seniors and caregivers to gain valuable information about the needs of older adults.
Attendees will enjoy guest speakers, workshops, health screenings, over 125 exhibitors, free flu shots, live entertainment, games, door prizes, and so much more. New this year is food booths so attendees may choose from several options (in lieu of a plated lunch). Come meet Texas Rangers’ legend and three-time all-star Jim Sundberg, enter for your chance to win a holiday trip for two to Branson, and learn more about the aging process in an exciting and interactive environment.
Southlake senior citizens are encouraged to attend the expo. According to Soheila Phelps, senior services coordinator at the Southlake Senior Activity Center, transportation to the event will be offered.
“The Senior Center has taken members every year since Empowering Seniors started six years ago,” stated Phelps, also mentioning that there will be capacity for 22 registrants on the bus. The registration fee for joining the Southlake seniors group is $3 and members may sign up at the Senior Activity Center, located at 307 Parkwood Drive in Southlake.
