Free Tax Preparation with AARP

AARP Tax Aide is coming to Southlake Library to provide free tax preparation for seniors and low to moderate income individuals.

The Southlake Public Library will host AARP Tax Aide volunteers starting in February to provide help for low to moderate income and senior taxpayers in filing their Federal income taxes electronically. Interested individuals can make an appointment with the Library for Thursday afternoons between February 7 and April 11. Appointments are available between 2:00 and 6:00 PM. Call the Library Reference Desk at 817-748-8247 to schedule an appointment for this service.

There are no age requirements and this is a free service.

August Seminars for Senior Activity Center Members

Each month, the Southlake Senior Activity Center offers a variety of educational, legal and health seminars for its members. Visit the Senior Activity Center or call (817) 748-8315 to register for the seminar you want to attend!

Not a member of the Senior Activity Center? Anyone age 55 and better can become a member online or in person at 285 Shady Oaks Drive. There are no geographical restrictions on membership or attendance.

Identity Theft Awareness Forum
Date: Tuesday, August 7, 2018
Time: 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Description: Congressman Marchant and speakers from local, state and federal agencies will speak about identity theft and scams targeting our seniors. They will share insights and best practices to avoid falling for these traps. A Q&A session will follow the presentation.

Diabetes and Exercise
Date: Thursday, August 9, 2018
Time: 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Description: The Carlyle at Stonebridge Park will give a presentation teaching the proper exercises for folks who have diabetes. Get a free blood pressure check while you’re here!

Learn Then Lunch: Senior Living Solutions Series
Date: Thursday, August 16, 2018
Time: 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Description: Explore your options regarding long-term housing and how to accommodate the expenses. All transitional issues will be discussed: getting your home ready to sell, selling your home and what to do with all of those belongings.

The Palliative Pathways
Date: Thursday, August 23, 2018
Time: 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Description: Loretta Windman of Community Hospice Texas leads this program designed to provide information about complex medical decision making, resources, advanced directives and more.
