City of Southlake Earns FY 2016 Budget Award

GFOA distinguished budget awardThe city was recently awarded the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award to the City of Southlake for the FY 2016 annual budget beginning October 1, 2015.

The award represents a significant achievement and reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.  In order to receive the budget award, the City had to satisfy nationally-recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.

These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as a policy document, as an operations guide, as a financial plan, and as a communications device.

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving nearly 18,000 government finance professionals throughout North America.  The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.

GFOA distinguished budget awardFor the seventh year in a row, the City of Southlake has been recognized for budgeting excellence.  This year the City received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the FY 2015 budget document.

Award comments included “Long term planning is evident.” and “Excellent strategic alignment of goals and performance measures.”

GFOA was founded in 1906 and has nearly 18,000 members.  The members are made of up federal, state and local finance officials. According to the GFOA’s website, its mission “is to enhance and promote the professional management of governmental financial resources by identifying, developing, and advancing fiscal strategies, policies, and practices for the public benefit.”
