June 7th, 2016 is “Don’t Die of Doubt Day”.
Cardiovascular disease is the number 1 killer of Americans; and,
Whereas, in 2014, more than 4,800 North Texas residents over the age of 50 suffered a heart attack; and,
Whereas, every 43 seconds, someone in the United States has a heart attack; and,
Whereas, only 40 percent of people experiencing a warning sign of a heart attack call 911; and,
Whereas, treatment can be delayed up to an hour for those who drive themselves; and,
Whereas, reducing treatment time by calling 911 is vital to surviving a heart attack; and,
Whereas, medical treatment is initiated by the 911 dispatcher and delivered by EMS, who can identify and treat a suspected heart attack upon arrival at the patient’s location; and,
Whereas, the American Heart Association launched the Don’t Die of Doubt campaign to educate North Texas residents on the value of calling 911 at the first sign of a heart attack; now,
Therefore, I, Mayor Laura Hill, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim June 7, 2016, as
Don’t Die of Doubt Day
