WACO – The Carroll Dragon soccer teams had a successful trip to Waco last Friday.
The Lady Dragons started the night with a 5-1 victory against Belton in the Class 6A area playoffs held at Waco Midway High School. Carroll built a 4-0 lead by halftime.
The Dragons followed with a 3-1 victory against Killeen Harker Heights.
Monday night both teams return to action in the Region I quarterfinals against a familiar opponent. Both teams play District 5-6A mate Hebron with a berth to the region tournament on the line.
The Dragons open the doubleheader at 6 p.m. vs. Hebron at Argyle High School. The Lady Dragons follow vs. Hebron at 8 p.m.
The Carroll Dragon boys’ basketball team hosts Hebron at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3 in a key District 5-6A matchup.
The Dragons defeated L.D. Bell on Tuesday 52-47 to stay in the playoff picture. Hebron leads the district at 8-2 and 20-6 overall. Carroll won the first district meeting at Hebron earlier this season.
Carroll (13-11) is tied for fourth place with Lewisville and Marcus at 5-5 in district. Four teams from each district earn playoff berth. Against Byron Nelson, Sam Bourcy led the Dragons with 15 points and Stephen Blomstrom had 13.
Next week, the Dragons finish the season with two road games — Tuesday at Flower Mound and Friday at Trinity.
Lady Dragons Face Hebron
The Lady Dragons host Hebron on Friday night at 6 p.m. seeking a district sweep of the Lady Hawks. Carroll is currently 1-11 in district and tied with Hebron. In the first meeting of the teams, Carroll won 45-31.
The Lady Dragons will close the regular season next Tuesday at Flower Mound at 6 p.m.
CARROLLTON – The Carroll Lady Dragons earned a much-needed victory in District 5-6A action on Tuesday.
Carroll defeated Hebron 45-31 and earned its first district victory as the teams near the end of the first round of league action. Carroll led by three at halftime, then outscored Hebron 22-11 in the second half.
The Lady Dragons were led by Abby Zeitsiff and Gabby McBride, who each scored 13 points. Anna Gilliat added eight points. Carroll hosts Flower Mound at 6 p.m. Friday at Carroll Senior High School.
Carroll improved to 5-10 overall and 1-5 in district.
Dragons Win in Dramatic Fashion
The Dragons earned a big road victory in 5-6A vs. Hebron, winning in double overtime 58-55. Carroll trailed by seven after the first quarter and rallied the entire night.
The Dragons outscored Hebron 12-6 in the fourth quarter to force overtime. Sam Bourcy led the Dragons with 14 points, Blake Bischler added 11 and Eric Creech scored 10.
Carroll hosts Flower Mound at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Carroll Senior High School. The Dragons improved to 11-7 overall and are one of four teams in 5-6A tied for first place (Carroll, Flower Mound, Lewisville and Trinity).
The Lady Dragons fell to district mate Hebron 3-0 in the Class 6A Region I final at Glen Rose. It was the fifth meeting of the season for the teams that finished as co-champions in District 5-6A. Carroll was the district’s top seed after it defeated Hebron in a playoff seeding match before the playoffs started.
Hebron advances to the state meet and looks to defends its title from a year ago. Carroll lost 25-18, 25-21 and 25-22.
The Lady Dragons finished the season 43-7.
LAKE DALLAS – The Carroll Lady Dragon volleyball team continued its outstanding postseason play Tuesday.
The Lady Dragons earned their second consecutive playoff sweep winning 3-0 against Allen in the Class 6A Region I quarterfinal at Lake Dallas High School. Carroll won 25-13, 25-21 and 25-21 to advance to the Region I tournament.
Carroll (42-6) will face El Paso Coronado at 8 p.m. in Glen Rose. The other regional semifinal matches Hebron vs. Keller. The winners of both games meet in the Region I final on Saturday with a berth to the state tournament on the line.
The Lady Dragons celebrated a victory Tuesday night and on Wednesday morning seven senior signed scholarships.
The Dragons won their eighth straight game with a 45-7 rout of Bell at Pennington Field. Carroll improves to 8-1 overall and 6-0 in district.
Carroll will look to complete an unblemished run through district with Friday’s home game vs. second-place Hebron on Senior Night.
The Dragons led 24-0 at halftime and were led on the ground by Tre Sledge and Audricke Gaines. Sledge rushed for 108 yards on 10 carries and had one TD rushing and one receiving. He had one of four Dragon TDs on the ground. Gaines added 65 yards and one TD. Tavian Gould and backup quarterback Will Bowers added the other TDs on the ground.
Starting quarterback Mason Holmes threw one touchdown to Clayton Keyes in the first half.
Defensively, Dragon freshman cornerback RJ Mickens had two interceptions.
Carroll is now ranked No. 8 in Class 6A by the Associated Press. The Dragons will be the No. 1 Division II seed out of 5-6A when the playoffs begin next week.

The Carroll Lady Dragon volleyball team earned its biggest victory of the season last Friday.
Carroll defeat the Hebron Lady Hawks 3-2 on the road in District 5-6A action. Hebron is the defending Class 6A state champions.
The Lady Dragons, now 28-5 overall and 3-0 in district, won the match 22-25, 25-17, 25-20, 17-25 and 15-11. Hebron entered the match ranked No. 1 in the state. Carroll returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Marcus at 6:30 p.m. On Friday, the Lady Dragons play at Flower Mound before the varsity football game at 7:30 p.m. at Flower Mound.
GRAND PRAIRIE – The Carroll Dragons were knocked out of the baseball playoffs last Friday by Hebron.
The Dragons were swept in the Class 6A area best-of-three series after losing 2-1 at QuikTrip Park. Carroll lost the opener Thursday 4-1.
Hebron’s pitching proved to tough to overcome as the Dragons were held to two runs in 14 innings. In Game 2, Dragon junior pitcher Kole Ramage kept the Dragons within striking distance. He had four strikeouts and scattered nine hits.
Carroll senior shortstop Hudson Sanchez led the Dragons at the plate going 2-of-2 and knocked in the only Dragon run.
The Dragons finished the year 21-8-1.
Carroll silenced Mansfield for 12 innings of the series, winning 10-0 in the opener and 2-0 on Saturday to complete the sweep. The Dragons advance to meet Hebron in an area round series.
Dragon pitcher Kole Ramage sent his team to the area round with a five-hit shutout on Saturday. The Dragons’ offense was quiet most of the day scoring one run in the first inning and one in the third on Hudson Sanchez’s towering solo home run to left field.
The Dragons (21-6-1) won the series opener at Mansfield in a game shortened to five innings by the 10-run rule. Left-handed started Trevor Harris, bound for Baylor next fall, earned the victory on the mound and went 2-for-3 with two RBI at the plate.
