CSHS Announces Class of 2017 Valedictorian, Salutatorian

Carroll Senior High School has announced the Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the Class of 2017.

This year’s Valedictorian is Samira Mehta. She will be attending the University of Pennsylvania and plans to major in Biology. Samira’s parents are Rajeev Mehta and Ruchita Mehta.

Carroll’s Salutatorian is Emma Lin. She will be attending Harvard and will study Government and Philosophy. Her parents are Xiaoren Lin and Xinyu Zhang.

Class of 2016 Graduates on Picture Perfect Night

Grad2Graduation for the Class of 2016 avoided rain and turned into a memorable night for the Dragon seniors.

This year’s class included 630 Dragons who walked across the stage Friday night under amazing rain-free skies. Family and friends filled Dragon Stadium’s home side, which seats more than 7,000.

Before commencement began, a new tradition was started this year. The seniors loaded school buses at Carroll Senior High School and received a police escort to Dragon Stadium along Southlake Blvd. The students gathered in the auditorium and watched senior videos before leaving.

During the ceremony, Valedictorian Wongyeong Seong and Salutatorian Nikhil Ravi delivered speeches and spoke of traditions and friendships. Following graduation, the students attended Project Graduation, an overnight event held at Main Event in Grapevine.

CSHS Green Jackets Announced for 2016-2017

Carroll Senior High School has announced the Green Jackets for the 2016-2017 School Years. These students were chosen from a highly competitive group of over 200 eligible students.

The student ambassadors are comprised of sixteen juniors who have a 95.0 average or better and who the faculty believe to be exceptional leaders.

Eight boys and girls with the most votes from the esteemed CSHS faculty receive the honor of becoming the new representatives. The Green Jackets are known for being an honorable group that serves in many capacities. According to Carroll Senior High tradition, they sport a green blazer, and usher at graduation, musical and theatrical events, sports events, as well as volunteering for civic events.

Former Dragon Returns Home To Lead CSHS

Shawn Duhon is returning to Carroll ISD as the new principal of Carroll Senior High School. He is expected to begin his new post July 2.

Shawn Duhon is coming back to Carroll ISD.

The Carroll ISD School Board approved the hiring of Duhon as the new Carroll Senior High School Principal during Monday night’s board meeting. Duhon returns to the district after serving as a Dawson Middle School Assistant Principal during the 2008-2009 school year.

Duhon replaces Mike Rhodes, who retired after 31 years in education and the last three as the CSHS principal. Duhon also joins his family in CISD, where his wife Christie works at Carroll High School and sons Keaton and Kameron are secondary students.

“Mr. Duhon was highly regarded by our interview committee and his strengths of relationship building and leadership will make an impact on our students and staff, said Dr. JJ Villarreal, Assistant Superintendent of Student Services.”

Duhon has worked the past nine years in educational administration and previously served as the Northwest High School Assistant Principal of Student Services and Facilities since 2009. While at Northwest, Duhon oversaw advanced academics including initiatives and implemented the Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) and Media Arts elective courses.

Duhon has 18 years of experience in public education and started his career at his alma mater South Grand Prairie High School in 1994.. He was also a teacher, coach and administrator in the Grand Prairie School district. Duhon graduated from Cameron University in Lawton, Okla. and earned his Masters of Education from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Duhon is expected to start  July 2.
