The holiday season is finally here, and we can’t wait to ramp up the celebrations!

The City came together last weekend to celebrate Home for the Holidays and light up Town Square with holiday cheer. As Thanksgiving is this week, however, we didn’t want to let this crucial holiday pass without expressing our gratitude.

Here are five things we are thankful for this week:

Incredible Partners
Our mission is to create world-class experiences, and we couldn’t accomplish that without strong partnerships. Thank you to our volunteers, vendors, sponsors, board and commission members, athletic associations, and community services organizations that enhance the quality of our services every day. We're grateful to you for sharing our mission and helping us meet it daily!

Beautiful Green Spaces
The holiday season is beautiful, but nothing beats having expertly planned and maintained public green spaces and parks. From the twinkling lights in Town Square to chilly walks in Bicentennial Park, November is a great month to get outside. Thank you to our Parks Division for your commitment to city-wide beautification all year round!

Serving our Community
Not everyone is lucky enough to get to do what they love for work every day. Parks and Recreation professionals have the privilege of dedicating their careers to promoting healthy habits, providing exciting recreational programming, and celebrating life’s most precious moments! We love working with our community, from Champions Club members to Senior Activity Center members, programs, and athletics participants! Thank you for your trust!

Supportive Teammates
Cliché as it sounds, teamwork, makes the dream work, and we have an incredibly supportive team in the Community Services Department. This Thanksgiving, we are grateful for co-workers who are always willing to lend a helping hand and make showing up to work fun every day!

Taking Time to Celebrate
Life moves by fast, so it’s essential to take the time to celebrate all occasions, big and small! We are grateful to celebrate this upcoming holiday as we continue to plan world-class holiday programs in the coming weeks. We hope our residents take the time to celebrate with their families and join us throughout the holiday season!

Happy Thanksgiving from the Community Services Department!

You’re invited to watch Southlake Town Square light-up for the holiday season at the City of Southlake’s annual Home for the Holidays — Christmastime in Southlake Tree Lighting Celebration on Saturday, November 20 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Tree Lighting Ceremony will begin at approximately 6:00 p.m.

This whimsical celebration kicks off the holiday season with a variety of family-friendly entertainment, arts and crafts, and delectable holiday treats.

Grab a cup of hot chocolate and enjoy free event activities such as cookies decorating, ornament crafting, writing letters to Santa, carriage rides with your family and friends, pictures with Santa and his elves, and sliding down our 12-foot-high snow hill. This year, there will be a second snow hill designed specifically for small children.

Southlake Fire Department will have their Fill the Truck Toy Drive.

To review the full list of Home for the Holidays — Christmastime in Southlake festivities (e.g., Breakfast with Santa), visit our website.

Parking will be available at the East and West parking garages. If you plan to use a ride share service, please direct them to our designated drop-off location at Summit Park located at 1501 Main Street.

Special thanks to the Home for the Holidays sponsors: Amber Butcher with Engel & Voelkers Southlake, Texas Health Southlake, WAY-FM and T-Mobile Southlake.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Southlake’s annual Home for the Holidays celebration. This year’s activities will look a little different than previous years, but it will still be a December to remember!

The virtual tree lighting will air on the City of Southlake Facebook page November 21 at 6 p.m. Order from your favorite Southlake restaurant and enjoy a night in with your family. Hear about some of our favorite holiday traditions from Mayor Laura Hill and City Council members and watch our tree lighting ceremony from the safety and comfort of your home.

But the fun doesn’t stop there!

This year’s festivities have been extended so that your favorite Home for the Holidays activities are available in a safe way. Join us December 1 – 20 for pop-up events during our 20 Days of Holiday Cheer featuring our first ever Southlake Holiday Cheer parade on December 5 and a snow hill on December 19! More information on each event will be available soon so keep an eye on HomefortheHolidaysSouthlake.com and City of Southlake Facebook page for all the details.

With help from our partners, you’ll still be able to visit Santa’s Village and ride a carriage through Southlake Town Square in a safe way.

This year will definitely be a December to remember! Have a happy holiday season!
