Fire Hydrant Testing Begins

The Southlake Department of Public Safety’s Fire Services division will begin testing the City’s fire hydrants.  The annual testing is necessary to ensure that all fire hydrants are fully operational in the event of a fire emergency.  This testing will also verify that all fire hydrants are able to maintain the required water flow necessary for putting fires out quickly.

Fire Chief Michael Starr says, “The testing of all of the City’s fire hydrants is necessary to ensure the safety of Southlake residents. Our number one priority is being able to protect our citizens from any fire danger.”

Hydrant testing is performed during low consumption and water usage times.  This is done to ensure that any necessary maintenance or repairs can be made with limited impact to Southlake’s water system.  Fire Services employees will diligently monitor the amount of water flow during the testing procedures to minimize the amount of water usage necessary to ensure correct operation and flow rates.
