Coffee and Conversation: An Open Dialogue about Racism, Discrimination & Intolerance

A Mom to Mom Coffee and Conversation is taking place Wednesday, November 14 starting at 7:00 p.m. at The Marq Southlake.

“I pulled together this event so that Moms can talk about what can be done to create meaningful change in our community,” said Mayor Laura Hill.

The conversation, which will be led by Mayor Hill, Carroll ISD School Board President Sheri Mills and Carroll ISD School Board Vice President Michelle Moore, is the latest in a series of community meetings and gatherings after a video recently posted on social media showed teenagers chanting a racist word to the camera.

“We want to have an open dialogue and talk about what we can do together to make meaningful change,” said the Mayor. “I am profoundly sad that even I did not know what some of our children and families have experienced and I feel very responsible for how we move forward.”

The event is one of many opportunities that will bring people together to talk honestly and share ideas about how to fight racism and intolerance in the Southlake community.

The Mayor and Board Trustees are organizing this Coffee and Conversation for Moms while City Council members are working on a similar event for Dads.

“Council and staff have made it clear we will be part of a solution for change, and we will work hard to be a supportive partner to Carroll ISD,” the Mayor stated.
