City of Southlake Announces Judicial Appointments

City Council appointed Judge Lindsay Kinzie and Judge Kara Carreras as the associate judges of the Southlake Municipal Court of Record at the May 2, 2023, City Council meeting.

Judge Kinzie has returned to serve a second term, having been originally appointed in April 2021.

As an associate judge, she carried out judicial responsibilities and presided over trials.

When asked about serving a second term, it comes down to the community and its citizens.

“I sought reappointment because I love working with the citizens of Southlake in this unique judicial role,” said Kinzie, “Coming face to face with constituents and giving them a place for their voice to be heard is one of our most basic constitutional rights. I am honored to serve in this role and look forward to a continued partnership with the city and its great community.”

Kinzie also explained why she was excited to serve a second term, noting the connection it brings within the community and the judicial system.

“I am excited to be serving a second term as Associate Judge to grow our presence within the community as a fair and equitable bench. I also look forward to being in a place to meet and get to know our citizens in a deeper and more meaningful way that grows trust and rapport between the community and its judicial branch,” she stated.

She received her Juris Doctor from Texas Tech University.

Judge Carreras is no stranger to the Southlake community. She volunteered for over a decade at Metroport Teen Court and even served as the board chair for three years.

She is also a member of the Crime Control Board for the City and has helped to supervise the financial plans and arrangements for ensuring public safety within the community.

Through her volunteer work, Carreras has gotten to know the staff and the community very well, so much so that she refers to Southlake as home.

“I am most excited to be a part of a great team,” said Carreras. “I call Southlake home and I am honored to serve my community as an associate judge.  I have a passion for law and this community, so it is a perfect fit.  Throughout my years of volunteering with the City of Southlake, I have gotten to know many of the staff.  I feel lucky to now be a part of this wonderful team!”

Carreras completed her law degree at Texas Wesleyan University School of Law and is an owner and partner of the Carreras Law Group, P.C. in Fort Worth, Texas.

Judge Kinzie and Judge Carreras terms commenced on May 3, 2023.
