Skunks on Your Property? Here’s What You Can Do.

Skunks are categorized as a pest species and if you see these creatures around your property, you may be concerned that you, your kids or pets may get sprayed.

No need to fret.

The City of Southlake partners with Keller Regional Animal Services to respond to animal control services including wildlife control.

When it comes to trapping wildlife such as skunks, residents have two options.

Option 1:

Check out a trap for up to 10 business days. Traps are available on a first-come, first-served basis. You can call Keller Regional Animal Services at 817-743-4710.

Option 2:

Capture the skunks yourself. You can do so in a privately-owned trap and a Keller Regional Animal Services officer can be dispatched to pick up the animal for a fee of $30.00.

Here are a few tips to help prevent skunks or wildlife from settling on your property.

  • Eliminate outdoor food and water sources.
  • Don’t leave pet food out overnight.
  • Keep the ground clear of birdseed.
  • Secure trashcans with tight-fitting lids.
  • Don’t leave your garage door open or cracked at night with pet food on the floor inside.
  • Lock pet doors at night.
  • Keep your yard clean.
  • Cover or apply screens around the bottom of decks and sheds.
  • Do not leave brush piled up for extended periods of time.
  • Check the condition of your chimney cover and keep the chimney closed when the fireplace is not in use.
  • Block or fix damage to the eves or soffits on your home.
  • Do not allow cats or small dogs to roam freely without you close by.

Regional Animal Services is hosting an event at the Keller Police Department for residents to learn about wildlife in this region and how to co-exist on Oct. 25 from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Keller PD Community Room located at 330 Rufe Snow Dr., Keller TX 76248
