Voting in the General & Special Elections Takes Place May 9

VoteVoting in the General and Special Elections will take place Saturday, May 9, 2015. As Southlake is located in two counties, Denton and Tarrant, Southlake registered voters need to be aware that they can only vote at polling locations within their county.

If you are a Tarrant County Voter, voting will take place at Carroll Senior High School, 1501 West Southlake Boulevard,: 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Here is the Tarrant County Sample Ballot. It contains information about what voters will be asked to consider on Election Day. 

If you are a Denton County Voter, voting will take place at Roanoke City Hall, 108 South Oak Street, Roanoke.  Here is the Denton County Sample Ballot. It contains information about what voters will be asked to consider on Election Day. 

Voters are required to present an approved form of photo identification in order to vote in all Texas Elections. Acceptable ID includes:

  • Texas driver license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
  • Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS
  • Texas personal identification card issued by DPS
  • Texas concealed handgun license issued by DPS
  • United States military identification card containing the person’s photograph
  • United States citizenship certificate containing the person’s photograph
  • United States passport

With the exception of the U.S. citizenship certificate, the identification must be current or have expired no more than 60 days before being presented for voter qualification at the polling place. Please visit this site for additional information.

Community Engagement Committee Hosts 2015 SPIN Candidates Forum

2015 CandidatesThe Community Engagement Committee will host a SPIN (Southlake Program for the Involvement of Neighborhoods) Candidates’ Forum for City Council Candidates on Monday, March 30, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber at Town Hall, 1400 Main Street.

This session is intended to provide an opportunity for residents to become familiar with each of the candidates and their platforms.

Forum candidates will provide a brief introduction and overview of their platform. Next, all candidates will be given the opportunity to respond to all questions asked from the audience, while the moderator will manage the order in which the candidates respond.  Finally, all candidates will be asked to provide a closing statement.

An information session concerning The Marq Southlake Phase 2 Special Sales Tax Election will also take place that same evening.  This session will immediately follow the Candidates Forum.

Filing for General Election Closes

vote_ballot_boxThe filing period is over for Southlake’s May 9th general election.  A total of four candidates have filed for two offices.

Carolyn Morris and Laura Hill have both filed as Mayoral candidates.  Morris is currently is the Place 2 Council member.  She has reached the two term limit per the City’s charter.  Hill is currently the Mayor Pro Tem.

For Place 2, Sean McCaskill and Pamela A. Muller have filed their candidacy.  McCaskill recently stepped down from the City’s Planning and Zoning Commission.  Muller is a former City Council member.

Two special elections will also be held on May 9th.  One will concern a special sales tax election that would ask voters to consider a reduction of the Crime Control and Prevention District (CCPD) rate from 1/2 cent to 1/8 cent.  It would then create a new Type A Economic Development Corporation to fund the construction and operations of The Marq Southlake and to allow for the promotion of economic development.

The second special election will fill a vacancy due to the resignation of Laura Hill, Place 5.  The term expires May 2016.  The filing period for this special election began February 18, 2015 and will conclude at 5:00 p.m. on March 9, 2015.

Candidate filing is open for the May 2015 General Election

Filing began Wednesday, January 28th, for the May 9, 2015 General Election for Mayor and City Council, Place 2.  Those who are interested in filing for office can do so now in the City Secretary’s Office during regular business hours through 5:00 p.m. on February 27, 2015.

  • January 28, 2015, First day to file for general election candidacy
  • February 27, 2015, Last day to file for general election candidacy
