CISD Middle School Choirs Earn Sweepstakes

UIL Men's ChoirTwo months of preparation lead to top awards for the combined Carroll and Dawson Middle School Men’s Choir.

During competition held on Friday, Feb. 28 the students performed three songs for judges followed by sightreading a piece the students had never seen before.

With 1 being the best, each of the six judges gave the 9-member choir a “1” rating. This results in a sweepstakes, which only 5 out of the 25 choirs that were there that day received.UIL Boys 1

“I could not be more proud of these gentlemen,” said Whitney Anderson, Carroll and Dawson Choir Director. “They worked so hard to get to this point and to achieve their goal.”

Students who are members of the Carroll and Dawson Choir are: Matthew Chaplowe, Mitchell Groff, Bill Kahn, Will Meagher, Saunders Penn, Sebastian Poorman, Ryan Stevens, Cole Sullivan and Pierson Van den Dyssel.

Due to the recent winter weather, the UIL rescheduled the women’s portion of the competition for the end of March. The combined Carroll and Dawson Middle School Women’s Choir will continue to rehearse until the competition date is official.

Middle School Choirs Sing with Heart

Friday, May 3, the Carroll and Dawson Choir students attended the Hurricane Harbor Choir Festival held at Birdville High School. This festival is similar to UIL where the students received ratings based on their performances however this time they were competing against other choirs as well. Both boys and girls choir swept the floor with straight ones. Directors say the students performed wonderfully and represented Carroll and Dawson with class. The festival hands out “Runner-Up Best in Class”, “Best in Class”, and “Grand Champion” awards for the boys and girls choirs.  In addition to receiving ratings for the choir performances, the boys choir also received the Best in Class award.

On Saturday, May 4 the choir students journeyed to the actual Hurricane Harbor for a day of fun in the sun.
