Update on the N. Kimball Avenue Widening Project

Placing Pavement Kimball at Dove

Workers placing concrete as part of the Kimball Road Widening Project

UPDATE 5/12/2014 – The recent thunderstorms have delayed the re-opening of Highland Avenue until May 18th.

“A major milestone was reached this week as the paving of a significant portion of the west side of N. Kimball Avenue, from Dove Road to Kirkwood Boulevard, was completed,” – Robert Price, P.E. Southlake Director of Public Works.

On Tuesday, April 22, 2014 and Wednesday, April 23, 2014, 187 trucks placed 1870 cubic yards of concrete along the west side of N. Kimball Avenue. The new concrete will require time to harden and gain a minimum strength before traffic can safely ride on top of the road.

It is important to note that the placing of the concrete comes after an extensive construction process. Contractors will now focus on completing driveways which are necessary to provide ongoing access for adjacent property owners.

Another important thing to keep in mind is that beginning Monday, April 28, 2014, Highland Avenue will be closed for construction of the west side of the intersection at N. Kimball Avenue for several weeks. Weather permitting, Highland Avenue will re-open the week of May 12, 2014.

Pending completion of all driveways and the construction of the Highland Avenue segment, traffic will be placed onto the new pavement on N. Kimball Ave. City contractors will then begin construction on the east side of N. Kimball Avenue.
