Not ready for football season to be over? Come play in one of the area’s most popular leagues of flag football! Participants, ages 6-12, will learn the fundamentals of one of America’s favorite pastime this spring with the City of Southlake.
All participants must register individually by Friday, February 21st. The cost to register is $60.00 per player (price includes a football jersey). Games will be played primarily on Saturdays at North Park, Southlake’s newest park, or Bob Jones Park and there will be one practice per week. Each team will need a volunteer coach, so please indicate if you are interested in coaching when you register your child.
Each team in the league will participate in a tournament at the end of the season. Teams will compete for an opportunity to advance to play in the State Championship. Last year, Southlake teams brought home the championship trophy in the 10 & under and 12 & under divisions.
UPDATE 3/18/2014 – At the March 18, 2014 City Council meeting the Titans (U10) and the Cougars (U12) were honored with a proclamation for their state championship win.
On November 16-17, 2013 the City of Southlake hosted the 2013 Texas Amateur Athletic Federation State Youth Flag Football Championships. This is the second year in a row the City of Southlake has hosted this tournament with great success. The games took place at Southlake’s beautiful, multi-purpose facility, North Park.
The tournament consisted of 30 teams, 5 which are from Southlake. Over 2,000 participants and spectators from across the great state of Texas traveled to Southlake for a great weekend of football. The weather was perfect as teams competed to take home the championship trophy for their respective divisions. A total of 55 games were played during the two-day span of the tournament. Four of the five Southlake teams finished 3rd place or higher. In the 8 and under division the Southlake Dragons finished in 3rd place. The Southlake Titans finished 1st and brought home the Championship Trophy in the 10 and under division. In the 12 and under division, we had an all Southlake championship game with the Southlake Cobras edging out the Southlake Cougars to claim the championship.
When teams were not playing games, they got the opportunity to visit the local restaurants as well as do some shopping at Southlake Town Square and other local stores. Teams who chose to hang around the park during their breaks had the opportunity to enjoy concessions from local restaurants such as the Feedstore Barbecue, Fuzzy’s Taco Shop and Chick-fil-A.
The City of Southlake would like to thank all of the participants who all played hard and displayed good sportsmanship as well as all of the coaches, parents and spectators who made this tournament a success. We are looking forward to hosting this tournament again in the near future.
