New traffic signal at Federal Avenue and Carroll Avenue.

A new traffic signal has been installed at the Federal Avenue and North Carroll Avenue intersection.

Motorists may have noticed the installation of a new traffic signal on North Carroll Avenue, which began in late 2014. As of today, January 15, 2015 the traffic signal is powered and flashing and by next week, the signal will be fully operational.

The new traffic signal aims to improve mobility along Carroll Avenue by creating gaps in traffic that will provide residents in neighborhoods adjacent to Town Square safer and more manageable access to North Carroll Avenue. Additionally, it will assist in moving traffic in and out of Town Square and likewise provide a safer alternative for motorists heading south on North Carroll Avenue towards Southlake Boulevard (FM 1709).

Although the light will be operational beginning next week, there is additional work that will be done over the next several months to complete the project, specifically the installation of crosswalks and sidewalks on the west side of the intersection and the installation of illuminated street name (ILSN) signs. The anticipated start and completion dates of this work will be communicated via the City’s website and social media channels once the work is set to begin.

The installation of the light at this intersection is part of the Town Square Improvement project, which also included building a right turn lane at the Federal Avenue/N. Carroll Avenue and building a future connection between State Street and Division Street.  More importantly though, these improvements represent a commitment to continually improving safety and mobility for residents of Southlake and the motoring public.

To see other ways we are fulfilling that commitment, please visit the Expanding Mobility page on the City’s website. If you have a question/comment about Southlake traffic, submit it to the Office of Traffic Management here. For additional questions about the Town Square Improvements specifically, contact the Public Works Department at 817-748-8098.
