Award-winning Mesa Restaurant Coming to Southlake

Southlake will soon be home to Mesa, a Veracruz-style Mexican restaurant that was named restaurant of the year in 2011 by D Magazine, one of the best new restaurants in DFW by Dallas Morning News, and featured on CNN as a successful Latino-owned business.

Southlake will be Mesa’s second location and feature the same sophisticated, urban décor  as in the well known original location on Jefferson Boulevard in Oak Cliff. According to Jaretzy Reyes, daughter of chef-owners Raul and Olga Reyes, they are awaiting a liquor license and plan to open in late October for lunch and dinner.

Although Southlake is a long ways from Oak Cliff, Reyes said it was an easy decision to come to Southlake.

“We have a lot of people from Southlake who come all the way to Oak Cliff to eat at Mesa. When we were approached about this location by investors, we thought it was a great idea,” she stated, noting the restaurant will seat approximately 200 people in both the dining room and bar area.

By all accounts, it is the Latin-style cuisine that takes center stage and should not be  confused with Tex-Mex. The menu features traditional dishes from the Veracruz region of Mexico, where Raul and Olga grew up and delight patrons with family recipes such as mole sauce, cochinita pibil, and numerous seafood dishes such as snapper Veracruz, lobster enchiladas, and shrimp ceviche. Raul (shown bottom right) is executive chef in Oak Cliff and Olga will run the kitchen in Southlake, ensuring the same authentic coastal cuisine will be served.

Mesa will be located at 2801 E. Southlake Boulevard. For more information, go to www.MesaDallas.com.
