City of Southlake's annual Youth Fishing Day – Saturday, May 9, 2015

It’s time to grab your pole and tackle box for The City of Southlake’s annual Youth Fishing Day! This is your chance to catch the one that got away – and a few of his friends! Southlake Parks and Recreation is teaming up with the Texas Junior Anglers to introduce children of all ages to the joys of fishing on Saturday, May 9, 2015. This free event will be held from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the Bob Jones Fishing Pier. The pond will be stocked with five hundred pounds of  fish for an opportunity to catch the “BIG” one.

Kids (ages 2-16) will be divided into separate age groups with trophies being awarded for the two largest fish caught in each age group – every fisher will receive a goodie bag.  Fishing equipment will be provided by the Texas Junior Anglers  or you can bring your own rod and reel. Anyone over the age of 16 who will be participating must have a fishing license to fish in the city parks.

Texas Junior Anglers is an outreach program that is designed to educate young Texans about aquatic sportsmanship, promote conservation of our environment, encourage a lifetime enjoyment of the Texas outdoors and foster strong community relationships. On-site Texas Junior Angler staff and volunteers provide equipment, teach youth how to bait and cast and help kids reel in their catch. Adults can get tips on basic rigging, fish identification and casting. The program provides a unique opportunity for families to learn how to fish together and discover just how much fun it can be!
