The Carroll Dragons begin their Class 5A titledefense Friday at Cowboys Stadium against the Martin Warriors. The 5A Division I bi-district playoff kicks off at 6 p.m.
Carroll (9-1) defeated Martin in the Region I final last season en route to its eighth state championship. Martin enters the game 7-3 overall and is coming off a season-ending loss to Bowie that decided the District 3-5A championship.
The Dragons went 7-0 in District 4-5A and defeated Haltom last Thursday 56-17. Senior quarterback Kenny Hill combined for four touchdowns (two passing, two rushing) as the Dragons won their ninth consecutive game. Hill was 7-for-10 passing with 126 yards and had six carries for 58 yards rushing. Backup quarterback Ryan Agnew added 39 yards rushing a two TDs. Luke Timian and Mike Gardiner each caught TD passes for the Dragons.
Carroll finished district action scoring 50 or more points in six of seven games. The Dragons enter the playoffs seeking a record ninth state championship. Their eight titles is currently tied with Celina.
