Dragons Cruise, Face Trinity Rematch Friday

FORT WORTH – The Carroll Dragons met Midland Lee for the second time this season last Friday at a frigid, windy and wet Saginaw’s Chisholm Trail Stadium.

The results were similar as the Dragons’ big plays led to a big early lead and 51-7 victory in a Class 5A Division I area playoff. The Dragons improved to 11-1 overall and won their 10th consecutive game. Behind the running of A.J. Ezzard and three first half turnovers, the Dragons held a 45-0 halftime lead.

The Dragon defense recovered a fumble and had two interceptions and shutout the Midland Lee offense for three quarters. Carroll defeated Midland Lee 63-14 during non-district play at Dragon Stadium.

The Dragons also added a fake field goal when holder Joe Heineman took the snap an dtossed a shovel pass to Steven Bergmark, who ran 15 yards for a touchdown. Kicker Drew Brown, who has committed to Nebraska, also added a 47-yard field goal in difficult conditions.

Ezzard finished with 16 carries for 99 yards and two TDs. Quarterback Ryan Agnew was 10-for-18 passing for 130 yards and tossed two TDs to Luke Timian.

Carroll advances to face Trinity in the Region I semifinals at AT&T Stadium. Kickoff is 4 p.m. Friday and the middle game of a tripleheader. This is a rematch from the same round a year ago when the Dragons won 16-7. Trinity (10-2) defeated Mansfield Timberview 42-21 in the area round.

Dragon Playoff Ticket Information
Tickets will be on sale Tuesday and Wednesday at the Dragon Stadium athletic office from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Adult tickets are $8 and students are $6. All tickets at the game are $10.

NEW AT&T Cowboys Stadium Bag Policy
Please be aware that the new bag policy will be in effect for the upcoming high school football playoff games at AT&T Stadium. This policy does not apply to bands, cheer and drill teams but it will apply to all spectators coming in via the public entrances. This also means that noisemakers are only allowed if they fit the sizes mentioned in [see Cowboys website] and they are able to be inspected by security personnel! Propane tanks, air horns, signs or flags on sticks or poles, alcohol, bottles, cans, outside food & beverage, beverage containers of any kind, popcorn tubs, coolers, weapons of any kind, laser pointers, footballs, wrapped gifts or baby powder/ flour to throw into the air are NOT allowed either.

Also new this year is our screening process with an handheld metal detection device. This will apply to everyone coming into the building. Spectators, staff and bands, cheer and drill teams alike. Please make sure that you spread the word so everyone is aware of these new guidelines. And finally – coaches, ball boys, JV players and team staff need to be in jerseys or team gear in order to be allowed on the sidelines. Otherwise, they will need a special sideline credential.
