Pokemon Go Safety Tips For Kids and Parents

The Pokemon Go craze is creating quite a buzz with children and adults. The App is taking players on a real-life adventure, of sorts, in search of Pokemon characters.

The game imitates what it would be like if a Pokemon character really were roaming around you at all times, in a kind of augmented virtual reality world, ready to be caught and collected. This feature has resulted in some “trainers” or Pokemon players becoming distracted and running into people, walls, poles etc. while playing the game. Pokemon fever has resulted in falls, bumps and bruises to players.

The Southlake Police Department wants to urge players, especially young teens, to practice safety.

Here are a few tips:

  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Don’t play Pokemon while driving
  • No crossing the street while playing the game
  • Don’t go to isolated locations alone, especially after dark
  • Be mindful of the City’s midnight curfew for teens under the age of 17
  • Don’t go to isolated locations alone, especially after dark.
  • Entering other people’s property is a crime and can be dangerous. Do not trespass.

Stay safe!
